This game must be in development longer than any other title, including DNF and Freelancer. I saw screenshots of it years ago when I was still buying games magazines, iirc. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have made any graphical progress since back then.

Yer, its a typical.. somebody with to much money and not enough knowledge of games gets rich, and decides to start his own company.. first year they just shoot nurf guns at each other, second year they actually start on a game, third year they get into money problems and just rush something out, if your company is named Elixir just add on an extra year :P
  • skalmanxl #3 10 years ago

I think they started sometime during 97 or 98.
  • DocX #4 10 years ago

Does anyone knows when this is due for release (the last made up date they gave would do)?
  • UncleLou #5 10 years ago

"the last made up date they gave would do"

    Around summer 2000, I'd guess.

edit: my trustworthy online games shop says "winter 2002"

I don't mean any disrespect to the developers of this one, but from the videos I've seen I've yet to be impressed.

I'm still hoping I'm very wrong.
  • DocX #7 10 years ago

"but from the videos I've seen I've yet to be impressed."

Yeah but I'm a sucker for pirates.
  • Nemesis #8 10 years ago

    Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Me too, but not at pieces of 8 fps.
  • Storm #9 10 years ago

I think the idea behind this game is to focus on the gameplay and not the graphics. This is supported by most of the interviews I have heard lately with Toby Gard. I just checked out their new web site www.confounding-fa ctor.com and it does talk about their release date. I'm still thinking they could pull this one out of the bag.

Do you think the girl (in picture 3 from top, right hand edge) is playing that game where somebody sticks a celebrity's name on your forehead and you have to guess who it is? Only in Chinese. Interesting game mechanic.
  • Genome #11 8 years ago

    Well.... this is looking... impressive....

Seriously, this looks to be the worst thing in years.

This was said two years ago... lol
  • Blerk #14 8 years ago

I hear it looks fabulous in motion, but I've not seen it myself so it might just be... lies! :-)

I hope it is good after all this time. But... y'know... it's been ages.
  • Tiger_Walts #15 8 years ago

Sadly the one thing about this game that has excited me, the control system, has now already been done (in part) by other games. PoP most notably.
  • BLACKSHEEP #16 8 years ago

The first screenshot sums it up really. Hmmmm. ;)
  • cloudaaa #17 8 years ago

i reckon the fact this game has had an unprecedented dev period, and is still to hit the shelves, speaks volumes about the quality of the game - we'll see soon enough

has anyone seen the most recent (great) coverage on some other websites, and mags like CVG?

don't knock something down until you know it to be bad... at this stage you know very little :-)
  • MikeP #18 8 years ago

cloudaaa, you've missed out the final line of your post, which should read:

"This post was sponsored by Confounding Factor".

Much money in the PR business at the moment, mate? ;-)
  • cloudaaa #19 8 years ago

    hmm not quite, mate ;)

am just someone who used to work with the game before the original publisher's financial problems left the game to languish, making good people finding work elsewhere

give galleon a try come June, you might just like it!
  • Philip Gumm #20 8 years ago

Well this is the guy that created the First and Best Tomb Raider imo. Hence I think we should give the man a chance. Sounds like he's been through hell lol...
  • cloudaaa #21 8 years ago

    he sure has

Toby Gard is a brilliant game designer
    - don't forget, he wasn't responsible for the rubbish TR sequels -
he left Core after the first game came out, which he did loads of work on

interesting to note that Lara has now been taken away from the sexy angle proposed by Eidos, she now has that cool and dark edge Toby originally intended - was he right after all?
  • sam_spade #22 8 years ago

Toby Gard is a brilliant game designer

He's made one good game out of two. He must be a genius. That's a 50% strike rate.
  • cloudaaa #23 8 years ago

    played the second game lately?

also - if you'll remember correctly, Kojima only did Snatcher/Policenauts prior to MGS series
  • pjmaybe #25 8 years ago

I'm slightly less pessimistic about this, seeing the latest batch of shots. I think though, that it's a damned good job they went for something looking this stylised, because if they'd tried to do something realistic, with the amount of time this has been in development it would've looked pig ugly by now...!

Could be great, could be crap. I'm almost hoping it's like a "tidier" version of the old PC classic "Ecstatica" but I bet it won't be.

  • Evestay #26 8 years ago

Anyway everybody in the press who's actually played it has said it's bloody great. I don't know P.O.P. was like sugar coated shit looks great ,plays like crap, this looks less scripted and more open ended; with all the me too games on xbox this could actually be a really interesting title.
  • tumbleweed #27 8 years ago

a hahahaha! I really don't see myself buying this!
  • TheDifficult3rdAlbum #28 8 years ago

I will confirm it has been released on the X-Box "scene" this morning....
  • Blerk #30 8 years ago

Atlus haven't gone out of business!
  • tumbleweed #31 8 years ago

    "Finger of Death!!! "

    Jinx Palm!!!
  • Blerk #32 8 years ago

You said 'Atlus' not 'Titus'. Atlus are publishing it in the US. They're nothing to do with Titus!
  • kingmob #33 8 years ago

    First Impressions...

Oh dear. oh dearie, dearie me.

About half an hour in and it isn't looking good. Controls are dire. Climbing seems to be a hit or miss affair.

Will continue until I'm in the game 'proper' but I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy :-(
  • kingmob #34 8 years ago

I'd argue that this game isn't finished at all. Graphically it's ugly. Sod the term "stylised", it's plain ugly. It would have looked ugly on the Dreamcast never mind X-Box.

The "use" interface frustrating to the point of anger (your character has a tendency to walk around on top of whatever it is you want to use instead of actually using it).

Seven years and THIS is the best they can deliver?!?!

Nice music and voice acting though...
