    Those screens....mocked up or not?
  • Roarer #2 8 years ago

They look extremely mocked up. Just look at the guy in the guard tower, or the "zoomed in" camera effect on the grass.
  • Whizzo #3 8 years ago

What platform are the pictures for?
  • Zero Beat #4 8 years ago

The foliage is surprisingly sharp for any of the consoles' hardware specs, neither shot shows the impressive draw distance or range of effects though. That light blooming stuff's getting a bit overused now, some more subtle use would be nice.

Ah I see it's supposed to be Xbox from the story.

No way in a billion years will an Xbox title look like that.

"Boss, the sky-box in that second shot is a bit mank. Maybe we shouldn't use it?"

"But it shows you being all stealthy in a jungle setting! Just like MGS3. Issue that shot!"
  • Shadrach #7 8 years ago

They've done a job on blurring the leaves in PS, but the gun flashes look flat and horrible. I dunno what they've done to the foliage but the Xbox is notoriously bad at sorting alpha blended textures so I'd imagine it'd be a technical nightmare....
  • Blerk #8 8 years ago

Definitely mocked up. They just don't look real....

    1261x967 'screenshots' ?!?
    Show us some real grabs...

or the "zoomed in" camera effect on the grass.

Uhhh, dudes. You DO realise that's just because of the closeup low-res textures the grass is made of, right?

    As for the rest, Idunno.

With Far Cry, Doom3 and Half Life2 all hitting Xbox within the next 12 months, Sony really have to take a closer look at releasing the PS3 earlier. Okay the screenshots are clearly a pile of piss purely for the benefit of E3 and the marketing machine, but hey, its good news for console only gamers.

It looks like a televised Mills & Boon novelette (all vaseline-lensed etc!)

If you're trying to tell me this is what it'll look like on the Xbox, then go find some other sucker!

    (all vaseline-lensed etc!)

Why, do they expect the camera to fit somewhere it shouldn't? I never knew Mills & Boon was THAT kinky!
  • kingmob #14 8 years ago

I'll agree with Ru that Chronicles of Riddick has shown the graphical potential of the Xbox. Certain areas in the game look absolutely gorgeous.
  • pjmaybe #15 8 years ago

And of course the trailer's really in-game footage on the Xbox version. Yes it is, oh yes it is!! Honest it is! No really it is! It is it is it is it is!

Did anyone take a look at this? Three minutes of spangly Far Cry: Instincts ingame footage - still looks a bit incomplete, but neat graphics and some nice ideas (particularly that rolling-over thing).

edit: got the link all wrong

So, can someone tell me, am I interested in this game?

I'd love to know why Ubisoft canned the PS2 version during the final stages of development.

Seems they just one day decided that "Instincts" would be an XBox exclusive.

Surely there's a lot more competition in the FPS stakes on the XBox.

A decent FPS would do well on the PS2, because of the bigger installed user-base and the lack of popular titles of the same genre.

Though, I'd advise anyone with a black/silver box to get Timesplitters: Future Perfect. It's superb.

Guys, have any of you looked at the PC version? It runs just fine on my Radeon 9600 XT (about $150 a year ago), so face it: it IS a gorgeous game, maybe the most beautiful ever, and NOT just an excuse for a fancy graphics card (which by the way Doom III was). As for these screenshots, I think they MIGHT be from the XBox version, since when you look at the PC version, it is easy to imagine XBox version looking like this. If it makes it like this, it will be most certainly the best looking XBox FPS ever.

As for Sony considering to release PS3 early, I am all for it. Look at it, Sony: MS have grabbed the three best FPS currently available today, and even though I think Ubi guys chickened out a bit on PS2 version, it WOULD have been a technical nightmare. If Far Cry 1.5, Half Life 2 and Doom III are available for PS3 at launch with better graphics than their PC parents, it will be the ultimate victory for Sony. But I am only dreaming.
