@wattoo, the two are similar, but somewhat differant. In caeser you are more "hands on" then you are in sim city. Also, combat plays a role, as does trade.

Ceasar III was pitched at a perfect level if you ask me, it had instant pick up and play ability because it was not overly complicated, but the depth was there if you wanted it. No other game (including the latest Sim Citys), have managed to achieve that for me.

This comes from the same creators, by the way, only they have changed name of the studio (and reduced total personnel). They also brought us Children of the Nile, which was a marvellous, but slow, game, definitely a step ahead in city building.
