It should be "Some are born to sweet delight". It's William Blake, that.

    Every night and every morn'
    Some to misery are born.
    Every morn' and every night
Some are born to sweet delight.

    Some are born to sweet delight;
Some are born to endless night.

edit - I might have that a bit wrong, actually. You get the idea.

    Looks very good.
  • Nikanoru #8 7 years ago

especially the sky.. very very nice.

....I've seen skies that looked just as good...in Unreal 1.

And that's not an attempt at sarcasm or an overstatement or anything.

    Nextgen = MEH.

    >Nextgen = MEH

Hmm ... might be a bit strong. I have stopped caring about skies though.

How about "next gen tech demos alone = Meh" ?
  • smelliot #10 7 years ago

I admit that it looks cool. I'd love to see what they make of it.

    Nobody 'needs' hair like that.

I like the screenshot, lots of additional subtle detail, like the stubble on his face, or the gradual blurring of the mountains as they get further into the distance. It just looks 'right'.

dunno what its about... could be as boring as installing windows... on the other hand, it could be just as fun as eating toast with butter AND jam in the morning!
  • Teeth #18 7 years ago

Oh man, I love installing Windows!
  • Bertie Verified Senior Staff Writer, Eurogamer.net #19 7 years ago

Pfft, Windows install graphics are soooo dated!
  • Teeth #20 7 years ago

It's all about the settings though, not the progress bars.

I love that NExt-Gen logo. Hope that EG will bring it back the next time around.

  • Talha #23 6 years ago

What is REALLY next gen about this game is that it is inspired by Stephen King novels, and adopts the settings lavishly. Without going into polygon counts, it looks great and after Far Cry and Oblivion, we can at least hope that it is possible to make the final game like the screenshots/videos.

    Heh. :)

I can't wait for this game. Not only because it looks fantastic, technically, but because they already capture the Twin Pekas atmosphere they're aiming for in the screenehots.

Not an odd title at all, if you've read the character intro blurb.

Back in the old days graphics impressed me.. nowadays, i couldnt care less (as long as they're not shit)
  • JediMasterMalik #35 6 years ago

You mean like Far Cry Vengeance?

    /takes cheap shot
  • smelly #36 6 years ago

Nah, far more shocking graphically is that new rampage game on the wii (Which DOES look shit and not taking advantage of any of the machines capabilities).

As long as the graphics are good enough to do their job and not "jar" at you (i.e. look so shit that you really cant play) then they take 2nd place to how well the game plays (in my book)..

For example, at the end of the ps1's life cycle it was REALLY starting to look a bit crappy.. And when the dcast/ps2/etc came out, there was a HUGE step in graphics and it actually made a BIG difference to the gameplay, meaning bigger worlds, better framerates, etc.

Now this transistion is happening, and yes the graphics are better, but not hugely so, not to a point where it actually makes as big as an impact to immersion/gameplay as with the move from ps1 to ps2 (For example).

Back in days of spectrum/c64 and when we progressed from them to nes, then to snes, megadrive, psone, ps2, etc.. Graphics mattered as lack of them really did spoil the games. Nowadays, despite fanboys still thinking that graphics are all that matters, they dont actually change the game in any way at all.

Apart from games like oblivion, take away the graphics, and your left with a yawnsome game with long load times, crap frame rates, and a piss poor story.. So there graphics do matter.. But surely that's a BAD thing?

The problem with having any discussion like this on forums is people immediately presume you're being a fanboy of something or another. It's not.. it's called HAVING A DISCUSSION. Im not a fanboy of any console, im kinda anti the ps3 at the moment - but im not a "fan" of anything.. I'll just buy whichever console has the games i want to play on.

  • smelly #37 6 years ago

In addition to this, and going off topic a bit.. I do find it interesting nowadays that graphics have taken more of a prescedent over gameplay than ever before.

It's almost as if someone in an office somewhere says "who cares if it only runs at 10fps, has long load times, and gameplay which consists of just tapping a button to attack.. it looks great in screenshots, and will have the fanboys masturbating into their socks so it'll sell like hotcakes!!"

And almost invariably they're quite correct by this... If recent examples are anything to go by. Hmm.. Best not make any examples here - it'll just upset people.
  • UncleLou #38 6 years ago

Nonsense. Yes, graphics sell, but if the game isn't about more than that it'll flop anyhow. Take a look at Unreal 2.

That you personally didn't like Oblivion doesn't mean others were only blinded by the pretty pictures. Not my favourite game, too, because it has its problems, but it's a game that's deeply, deeply rooted in classic Western role-playing - a genre that traditionally has not particularly been about good graphics. And that's what people - including me - like about it. It doesn't hurt that it's a beautiful game, too.

Also, no need to artificially "lol" because people like the screenshots here. Again, it's not just about the pretty pictures, it's because the pictures ooze atmosphere, something very important in games, and enhanced by good graphics. Your post doesn't sound amused, but as if you're desperately trying to find something to criticise.

I'll just buy whichever console has the games i want to play on.

Yeah, great. Now just let other people do the same.

And a tip: don't stress in every post how you're not a fanboy. Just don't act like one. You obviously realise you sound like one all the time, or you wouldn't feel the need to mention all the time how you aren't.

I really wish you stopped acting so foolishly irritating. Of all the people I see post here on EG, noone seems to be more concerned about the graphical capabilities of the Wii than you. You're like someone walking in the woods at night and shouting all the time how he isn't afraid.

"Im not a fanboy of any console,"

Who do you think you're kidding exactly smelly?
  • smelly #40 6 years ago

    Im not.

Being a fanboy of a piece of hardware is bloody stupid. It's a tool to play games on.

I'm a fanboy of games and companies that make good games. So im a fanboy of square, nintendo, and to some extent sega. To name a few.

Being a fan of hardware is the most stupidest thing i've ever heard. Each generation since the days of the spectrum i wait and see which machine has the games i want to play, then i buy that... I have no more brand loyalty than that!

Anyone who does is fucking stupid in my opinion.
  • Lex_Luthor #41 6 years ago

"Being a fanboy of a piece of hardware is bloody stupid."

What's your stance on being an anti-fanboy of a piece of hardware then?

  • smelly #42 6 years ago

    Sigh.. @UncleLou

Did i ONCE mention the Wii? No.

This game is coming out on the pc, and I have a shit hot pc which is more than capable of coping with it and anything else I chuck at it.

My point was the new reliances companies and consumers are putting purely on graphics over gameplay. Im not saying this game is the case, I cant tell purely by looking at screenshots - which was my point.

It was called HAVING A DISCUSSION. Just because someone wants to discuss an idea/thought they've had about a particular game does not mean they're slagging off your beloved fucking console or indeed promoting another one.

*sigh* sometimes I truely dispair, I should really stop trying to have "discussions" in "discussion forums" and start agreeing with people, at least then it'll stop moving onto petty name calling.
  • smelly #43 6 years ago

    >What's your stance on being an anti-fanboy of a piece of hardware then?

Ah, that's different. Im not anti the piece of hardware, im anti the way the company making said piece of hardware is acting. I would give examples here, but that's for another day - basically for me I hate the fact i'm being forced sold a computer which does loads of things when all i really want is a console to play games on.

TBH that was pretty much why i avoided buying an xbox so long (it pained me to give msoft any more of my money).

But that's NOT The point. The DISCUSSION i was TRYING to have WASNT about whether or not you masturbate over your chosen console every night, and more about whether companies are relying more on graphics to sell games over gameplay.

The problem is you cant see gameplay in screenshots, therefor (one of) my points being is does that not make the point of screenshots rather redundant?

And what's the point in graphics if it IS at expense of gameplay? Im not saying alan wake is, i would give an example of ones but as it's been proved already in this thread if i mention a specific game it upsets the fankids (maybe i should think of an example on each of the consoles to keep the kids from crying?).

You know, it's not like people aren't disagreeing here. There are discussions, you're just never taking part. Do you really think there is a big conspiracy against you here, that everytime you post something, people call you a troll or fanboy? That you were a randomly chosen victim? Or could it maybe be the case that you are the reason, and the way you write your posts?

I give you an example: instead of posting "OMGWTF GRAPHICS WHORES LOL!111", why not act a bit more reasonable. Yeah, I paraphrased, but not a lot. People might even take seriously what you say if you stop acting like a fool.

I know, I am probably talking against a wall here, but one should never give up hope.
