Square targets six million sales of FFXIII

Monster RPG raring to go.

Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada reckons the company can sell more than six million copies of Final Fantasy XIII worldwide.

Speaking to Reuters Japan in comments picked up by Kotaku, Wada also said he wants Dragon Quest IX to break the five-million barrier in Japan, which he thinks it will do this year.

Final Fantasy XIII is due out for PS3 in Japan on 17th December, and will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 simultaneously in the West in spring 2010.

Check out our most recent Final Fantasy XIII hands-on to find out what to expect, and look out for our review of the Japanese version at the end of the year.

    Haven't touched this series for years, really looking forward to returning to it. Much to the amusement of my friends i'm sure.

    I hope that this is the game that makes PS3 and Xbox360 more popular than the DS and Wii in Japan.

    /doubts it.

    Why? The DS is a great system. It deserves to be on top.

    This'll be the game I finally buy a PS3 for. Hopefully that FFXIII-themed console will wing its way over here.

    Mark me down for a copy. Thats me, 1 in 6,000,000.

    Also it's not coming to 360 in Japan so might be a big ask!

    6 million? A bit optimistic... not gonna happen I think.
  • cyacomini #6 2 years ago

    They sold 5 million Dragon Quest in Japan? That's pretty incredible!

    @Dizzy
    6 million worldwide??,they will piss that,easy

    i mean Resident Evil 5 sold 5 million copies(that was released about 6 months ago)..and this is Final Fantasy we are talking about here

    I'm not saying that the DS is not a great system, but I think that if the PS3 and Xbox 360 were on top, we might see more games from japanese developers for those two consoles. Thinking back to the days of SNES and even N64, it was always nice to be able to play games with very obvious japanese roots.

    Maybe I am romanticising it, but I really miss the days of quirky games from yesteryear.

    @metallicorphan

    not so sure; RE is extremely big outside of japan, and that's where most of these sales come from. FF is very popular in japan, but more of a niche game for the rest of the world. 6 million is very, very optimistic
  • KDR_11k #10 2 years ago

    So if it doesn't sell 6 million will this truly be the Final Fantasy?
  • metallicorphan #11 2 years ago

    @JahB

    well,Final Fantasy 12 has apparently sold 5.2 million,and that was only on the PS2(that was in March 2007)

    i still think they will do it,we are not talking first year or anything are we,we are talking eventually(and worldwide)
  • des #12 2 years ago

    "Only" on PS2 means on a system with 100+ mill userbase
  • Edwin #13 2 years ago

    On joystick they say 6m is only 11% of ps3 and 360's sold to date......... 6M is not an unreasonable number when you look at it like that.
  • penhalion #14 2 years ago

    six million....yea good luck with that...
  • Dizzy #15 2 years ago

    >On joystick they say 6m is only 11% of ps3 and 360's sold to date

    That is quite high IMHO. One in nine console owners buying it? FF is not *that* popular.
  • twoism #16 2 years ago

    I think it could definitely reach 6 mil in sales, but obviously not in the first month of release, lol. This will likely be one of those games that get re-released in Sony's platinum range about a year after, further boosting sales for people who didn't want to pay full price. Add the fact that it's now multiplatform and will probably end up getting the typical SE "international version" treatment with extra content, I don't think those numbers are too far fetched.
  • collateral89 #17 2 years ago

    i really want this game but they take up 2 much time i dnt no wat to do
  • hiddenranbir #18 2 years ago

    I'll probably play this, just to level up enough that bosses are a breeze. This version will go back to that, right?
  • metallicorphan #19 2 years ago

    @Hiddenranbir-Final Fantasy 12 had that...infact they made levelling up a joy in that game,so it really was a breeze

    and yes the PS2 had a bigger install base than 360 and PS3(which are about 50 million now)...but you can quote me if you wish,this game will beat 6 million sales...EASY!!,LOL :p

    Well i know shitloads of my friends that they all have 360s they are gonna buy it asap... And the only couple I am aware they have I bet they will as well. Going multi with a FF title is more than normal to sell to the extreme. What i care about is for it to be very freaking good game and more than worth all the wait. Im no fan. im a gamer so i kick back easily :p
