Square Enix, PopCap unveil Gyromancer

Puzzle Quest-alike for PC and XBLA.

Square Enix and PopCap are working together on a new puzzle-RPG called Gyromancer for PC (Steam) and Xbox Live Arcade.

There's no release date, but the goal seems to be to make something like Puzzle Quest (D3P/Infinite Interactive).

And why not? Square Enix knows a thing or two about RPGs and PopCap has perfected the puzzle. Plus, Puzzle Quest was brilliant.

So, with the gem-swapping Bejeweled Twist underpinning the adventure, the story of magician Rivel, who is following Qraist but being watched by Everett, unfolds. They're all heading to an enchanted forest for different reasons - some to find lost memories, others to control the powerful wood itself.

There are 10 game stages, and beasts, items and coins to collect. Leaderboards are there too, to compare your performance with that of your friends.

    Bejewelled Twist sucks though :/

    Puzzle quest is fabulous, and that is a bejewelled twist, so you are wrong clearly.

    A note to the DEVS though. Puzzle quest is only really great in portable form, why restrict your audience with such a narrow platform focus. Ipod, DS and PSP versions please.

    EDIT: I thought you meant a twist on bejewelled. I had no idea there was a game called Bejewelled Twist! So you may well be right!

    I like how Sqenix are spreading thier wings a bit and trying new genres.

    You know, there's people out there who have played this thing already due to the 360 magic... anyway, it's actually indeed a mix of Puzzle Quest and Bejeweled Twist that amazingly manages to drop most of the good things about both. No idea how they did that, but the sum is definitely a lot less than its parts.

    Oh dear weblaus. Seems destined to go the way of all the attempts to capture the magic of PQ. Neopets, Galactrix etc.

    Why not just give us PQ2. EXACTLY the same but with a massive level cap, more questing and loads more custom stuff for our characters, like clothes for instance.

    @Hantheman

    Given the ludicrous amount of money they spent producing FFXIII they didn't have much of a choice in the matter.

    Very late, but maybe someone still reads it. Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes is very good, feel like what a new and improved Puzzle Quest should be like.
