Sporepedia evolves onto Internet News

PC News by Robert Purchese

11 June, 2008

Maxis has released its Sporepedia into the wild - or more specifically, onto the Internet.

The Sporepedia a community site for Spore, the forthcoming evolution sim from Will Wright. You can upload your beasties or download those created by others, and do the same thing with buildings, vehicles and spaceships.

There are plenty of animals on there already, and you'll be able to add them your stable when the Creature Creator is released next Tuesday.

All you have to do is right-click on the thumbnail of the animal you want to pinch, save it somewhere and then drag that file into the Creature Creator. Simple. And there around 180 to choose from.

Also on the site are plenty of hints and tips about how to put your beasties together, plus lots of questions answered in a lengthy FAQ.

Thankfully it looks as though system requirements for Spore are fairly forgiving, as the team trying its best to make it "accessible to as broad an audience as possible".

Head over to our hands-on with the Spore Creature Creator for an idea of what to expect.

Didn't think to perhaps include the damn link to the site in the article? Journalism at it's best.

"for vista * 768 MB RAM "

Don't you need at least Gig for any vista-based system simply to run vista itself? Or is my uncanny assumption still living in a 2006 gossip?

If you have Vista 4 gig is advisable. Ram is soo cheap now they is little reason to have less. You can get 2 gig dd2 800 ram for under thirty quid.

I'm very impressed with the specs actually. They're catering for a fair few generations back, and even claim integrated chipsets will be hunky dorey with enough CPU power. I may actually be able to play this without having to upgrade! :) (Both my PCs fall somewhere around the middle.)

Does anyone know how much Spore will cost through the EA store? Buying the creature editor gives you £5 off the final release (but through digital download only) but if they're charging any more than the £25 most sites are, then it really wouldn't be worth it.

Maybe i'm having a blonde moment but I can't actually click the link "Sporepedia" on Spore's website: http://eu.spore.com/home.cfm?lang=en

Or have I missed the point entirely?

Great news about the specs though!

"When launching the game, some Microsoft Vista users may receive a warning about running out of address space along with a link to the Microsoft Knowledge Base. If you see this message, it is recommended that you follow the instructions and go to the website listed in the message to update your system."

That sounds promising!
