Spore turns Creepy & Cute next month

EA wastes no time with first expansion.

EA has unveiled the very first expansion pack for Spore, called the Creepy & Cute Parts Pack.

The game carries a date of 18th November, and contains over 100 body parts for nice and cuddly or mean and scary monsters. The EA US Store prices the expansion at USD 20, but there's no listing on our regional site yet.

EA plans a further Space expansion pack for Spore in spring 2009. This allows creatures to beam down onto planet surfaces and complete missions. There's also an Adventure Creator to make your own missions and share them with the internet.

Spore was released for PC early in September, and predictably attracted wide critical applause for its Darwinian concept.

Pop over to our Spore review to see why.

At least EA's doing its bit to restore the economy by inviting avid consumers to spend £300 on expansion packs over the next 18 months.

    /Joker

    And here we go.

    I've already uninstalled it.

It was reasonably fun while it lasted, but I have no intention to play it again unless something drastic is changed.

So this expansion is going to be about £10-£15? Sounds fine to me providing there's lots of content. It's not like you *have* to buy it, is it? ;)
  • MoFo #7 3 years ago

Wow they didn't waste any time! Wonder if these add ons will serve any game play function or simply be aesthetic, as per 70% of the content of the game.

Spore was a huge dissapointment for me. Needless to say I wont be buying any expansion packs.

careful mate, you'll only be able to do that 2 more times before you have to start paying international rate calls to some yank customer service rep to convince them you arent a thief...
    oh and how's the spyware?

Uh...yeah. The game has been out for what, one month?
Sure 5 new beaks and 3 new eyes are totally worth 20 dollar!
  • Jigglybean #11 3 years ago

yawn. waste of time this game.
  • rudedudejude #12 3 years ago

    Here comes the expansions!

Wait for an EA IKEA add on soon :p

Spore is laughable as a game. A 5-in-one compendium of lobotomized versions of some of your favorite games. When you think of their resources they had and yet a small developer can make a brilliant game like Sins of a Solar Empire, which blows (that part of) spore away and doesn't need DRM.
  • kinky_mong #14 3 years ago

Our store, unfortunately, makes no mention of the add-on, but we're checking the details with the publisher as we write.

That's because the UK EA Store is awful. They've only just put Dead Space up for pre-order and there's no mention of Mirror's Edge.

It got disappointing as soon as you got to the Space Era. I thought you'd be able to land and take over some planets, rather than staying in your ship and having to go back to your home planet every 5 minutes because Pirates are attacking or another race are as you don't have enough "protection" money to please them. Which can get more than frustrating when you are trying to get some missions done.

No, you're confusing the installation limit on separate PCs with reinstalling it on the same machine. You can uninstall and reinstall to your heart's content on the same PC (if I understand the install limit right). Also, I think the limit on different PCs was raised to 5.

Thing is, I'm in complete agreement - I lost all interest in it within a week.

Unless the expansion turns Spore into a completely different game, ie one that's fun to play, I think I'll pass.
  • Agent_Llama #18 3 years ago

I have to admit I haven't played this since the launch weekend. It's too shallow. I've got to the Space stage and wasn't particularly fussed about rushing back to it. News of the expansion doesn't surprise at all.

Massive massive waste of potential. Fuck them, I won't be buying
  • magicpanda #21 3 years ago

Yeah it's incredibly seldom I feel ripped off by purchasing a game (less than once per year on average). Spore is one of the few.

    A Total waste of money.

    Spore, Disappointment of the year.

Another vote from me for Spore being a rip off. So predictable that the expansions were lurking on the horizon - they seem to have decided to remove the 'game' from Spore, as they hope they can sell it back to us in the form of expansion packs. This is one of the very few instances where I feel some partisan support for the evil internet pirates, but I'll just register my dis-satisfaction by not playing the game and not paying for the add-ons (I also think EG should re-review the game minus the rose-tinted specs)
  • furrycheeky #24 3 years ago

Only 1 month after launch and an expansion turns up, surely thats a record, even for EA.

Creepy and cute, hmmmm, so its just more useless body parts.
  • Malixu #25 3 years ago

PARTS? The first expansion is freakin' PARTS!?! I mean, they could have given us a proper civilisation phase (which showed serious promise, IMHO), but no, we get parts.
  • avoozl #26 3 years ago

Sounds like it's not a proper expansion but more like one of those "stuff packs" they do for TS2. *shudder*
