Spore to get first expansion this spring News

PC News by Ellie Gibson

8 January, 2009

Evolution sim Spore is to get its first expansion pack this spring.

That's according to an invite sent out to US websites such as Kotaku. It states that an event is being held in San Francisco to reveal the "Spore line-up for 2009", including "our first expansion pack, Spore Galactic Adventures".

The invite also reveals the add-on will be "available this spring". Seeing as the main game was released within the same week in the US and Europe, it's reasonable to assume the expansion will arrive around the same time too.

For more on Spore, including our review, visit the gamepage.

I thought galactic adventuring was the point of Spore anyway.

Can't they focus on fixing the original game first? I'm one of many who can't even play it...

Cue the people who were genuinely disappointed with the game and so wish to express their justified frustration with it.

First expansion of three hundred. When the last one has been released, Spore 2 will come out with the exact same features as the original, and will need three hundred more identical expansion packs!

Must get round to trying Spore.

I dont get to choose what games I play on my PC very often though, as WoW is a possessive sonbitch and won't let me go near the 'Start' menu.

I agree with Farzlepot in that they're bound to force you to repurchase everything when Spore 2 arrives, making buying the packs a bit pointless in the long run. However, I wouldn't mind having a reason to go back and play Spore some more, as it's still a good game when you start exploring a bit. The endgame really needs some more content. Exploring the universe gets a little dull when every planet is essentially the same unless you discover an awesome creature on it.

You shouldnt worry about excessive numbers of expansion packs. Spore can only be expanded 3 times (though there may be a patch later that allows it to be expanded 5 times)

This game would have got 3/10 review scores if Will Wrights name was not on the credit list.
