Splinter Cell: Conviction delayed on PC

Out two weeks after Xbox 360 version.

Ubisoft has revealed that Splinter Cell: Conviction on the PC will now be released on 30th April, two weeks after the Xbox 360 version.

That's according to the publisher's latest release schedule issued this afternoon.

Ubisoft has had some PR difficulties with PC gamers lately, stemming from its controversial DRM system, which has become a target for hackers since it launched with Assassin's Creed II and Silent Hunter 5.

Check out our recent Splinter Cell: Conviction hands-on preview for more on how Sam Fisher's staggered return is shaping up.

Good! Hope they are going to remove that shit, then I may well buy it!

they won't remove it... and I won't buy it.

If anything, it's likely delayed to boost sales on the consoles. An archaic tactic, and one that is redundant when your PC version is laced with DRM that manages to outdo even StarForce 3 with its obtrusiveness.

(claps hands) Well done Ubisoft, I didn't think there was anything else you could do that could piss off the PC market even more. You're really trying your best at it. Even Activision are falling behind in this category.

No demo, shit DRM, delayed release, bruckheimered gameplay.

I don't think my computer will miss it.
  • space_ace #7 2 years ago

i'm pretty sure the pirated version won't be delayed :D
  • bad09 #8 2 years ago

I was gonna buy this, seriously, they lost a sale with me the day they announced that drm.
  • sneetch #10 2 years ago

Wow! What a huge shock! PC version of major game delayed!

Hopefully they'll remove the shit DRM (well, there's no real hope of that).

After experiencing the hideous DRM in Assassin's Creed II, which almost ruined the game for me during the first weekend, I will *NOT* be buying any future Ubisoft games that use this system for single player games and that includes Splinter Cell: Conviction!

Also Ubisoft's technical support sucks big time as two weeks after I sent a support ticket, I've yet to receive any response from them, probably because they've been inundated with emails following the game's disastrous first weekend on sale where people couldn't connect to the servers to play the game. On one occasion I had to wait over 30 minutes which is completely unacceptable for *any* game never mind one that is basically offline. It's a shame really because Assassin's Creed II is a truly brilliant game and I feel sorry for the developers that all their hard work has effectively been undermined on the PC by people complaining about the DRM instead of praising the game itself (check out all the 1 out of 5 reviews on Amazon for example).

Hopefully Ubisoft will see some sense and relax the requirements for this DRM to online registration and random online verification checks rather than it requiring a constant connection. This would reduce server load and presumably lead to more people being able to play the games without waiting ages or the games quitting to the desktop unexpectedly as happened to me a few times with ACII.

    360 Port
    Intrusive and absurd DRM
    Fairly generic gameplay

Our survey says: EH ERRRRHHHHHH (i.e. no purchase for me)

I was so looking forward to Conviction coming to the PC but when they announced the new DRM I couldn't be more disappointed...
  • matrim83 #14 2 years ago

Meh. Dont really care. With that DRM you can delay it permanently.
  • GaryHoward #15 2 years ago

Thank god I'm getting this on Xbox 360 - if I was a PC gamer, I would be really pissed off! I bet they delay RUSE next and even with DRM, Ubisoft are going to have a s**t year in sales overall.

As many have stated: No sale with that stupid DRM. I was really excited about this, but they can stuff it up their arses.

This is really worth remembering, because I totally agree. The developers have had nothing to do with this decision and their games are baring the brunt of the publisher's stupidity.

What makes it worse is that I always thought that the Splinter Cell games were vastly superior on PC.
  • giant_frying_pan #18 2 years ago

Hmm, instead of Splinter Cell Conviction, I feel oddly compelled to purchase some hair straighteners instead...
  • Keivz #19 2 years ago

I've got my eye on this but will wait for reviews as I really didn't enjoy the last SC. Have had no problems with the DRM in AC 2 thus far.

And a 2 week delay is better than the 4 month delay seen with AC 2 and many other PC releases.
  • Marshall2008 #20 2 years ago

Hope the retail 360 version looks better than the demo. Major ducked up screen tear when viewed in 1080p. As bad as resi 5.
  • Vixremento #21 2 years ago

It is sad. I've played all of the games in the series and while they weren't all good (double agent was very buggy) I still enjoyed them...on PC but that can no longer be the case because of their forced online requirement.

I was also hoping that I would be able to enjoy all three AC titles (played the first one and loved it even if it was a little repetitive) but sadly the online requirement prevented me from buying it. Unless things change it looks like I'll only ever know the first one now which is really sad when hearing that most people actually enjoyed the second one more than the first. Maybe I'll pick up a second hand version on console...maybe not.
  • UncleLou #22 2 years ago

Silent Hunter V has already been massively reduced in price here, costing half of what new games normally cost...
  • Hyoscine #23 2 years ago

Man, the 360 really needs it's pseudo-exclusives. Why couldn't the Alan Wake PC release just have been held back a few weeks?
  • mornegroth #24 2 years ago

If this happened to be a Splinter Cell game, I would care.
  • Stardusted #25 2 years ago

Mickey, being a fanboy is stupid. Being a fanboy who talks nonsense is utterly stupid. You heard all that because of the delay in splinter cell ? People really consider splinter cell a major title ?

Anyway, whoever feels happy that either one or two or more gaming platforms are being screwed, is ignorant.

It's like being happy because your left leg can no longer walk and you will do all the walking with your right one. It is that crazy.
