um... what shall we give Halo 3...

I know... "Most addictive game"... what a load of bollocks.

  • Dizzy #2 4 years ago

    And "Best multiplayer game" :)

I would have picked Mass Effect as GOTY... still the list is much better this year than ever before IMHO.
  • Cloudane #3 4 years ago

There is nothing to complain about there if you ask me.

I do expect to see several comments regarding that SMG should have be the GotY though...
  • wyli #4 4 years ago

Ahh, but is Halo 3 more addictive than Heroin Hero? "You can chase all you want, but you'll never catch the dragon"

There is nothing to complain about there if you ask me.

You would if you knew the nominations list. The results look reasonable but the lists were a bitt skewed in odd ways.
Game of the Year for example was mostly filled with 360 titles, Mario Galaxy, Ratchet , Crysis weren't on that list.
It was a bitt of joke.

1up Yours podcast had a bitt about it.

Super Mario Galaxy didn't deserve to win GOTY because quite simply, its Game of All Time.

Being the undisputed champion of that category automatically disqualifies it from being in any lesser categories ;)

chastising rebuke, Mass Effect for GotY!

    @ wyli

The most memorable game this year for me was Crackdown, it wasn't hyped up like the others and it was a lot of fun.

Mario Galaxy is GOY for me (although, I haven't played Mass Effect yer).

The game I had most fun with this year was.. Gothic 3!

The game was so buggy when it was released in November 2006 that I didn't even install it until April 2007! But since then (and numerous patches) it's been a blast :D

Spike TV gets some free advertising Shocker!
  • crozon #13 4 years ago

best multplayer games should have gone to Team Fortress 2.
Aside from that the awards weren't bad.
best shooter was always going to be a toss up between crysis and Cod4, i would have gone for crysis but what the heck cod4 is bloody good as well.
However where is the award for best RTS game????? Thats got to go to World in Conflict

    Naruto > The Simpsons :/

I am so happy that dispite everyone (myself included) buying halo 3, it was recognised as NOT being the best shooter or game out there. Heck it was mediocre at best with again a crap story and 5 year old gameplay.

I would argue that COD 4 has best multiplayer too but, that's just my hate of jumpy shooters kicking in.

    @Freek

Game of the year needs to be out for about 3 monthsI think so neither Mario or Mass effect would have been eligable.

The only problem with Halo 3, is that everyone talks about it, everywhere. Either one is in a games forum or a toasters debate.
If it wasn't the case, everyone would agree it's damn fine game. Very well made, with it's own personality, even if it misses any new feature, or whatever people seem to want.

To some extent I agree with ony, Crackdown should have won something, OST? shit, it has Amon Tobin!, how cool is that. huh!?, Amon Tobin and DJ Shadow in a shooter!

Best PC game is an expansion pack :/

As part of a bigger package, Portal is never quite going to get the recognition it deserves this year - a Breakthough Technology award isn't very exciting (not to mention odd - it wasn't an amazing tech advance, just a great idea well-executed).

It's my game of the year by a long, long way (haven't played SMG) but it's just gonna get swallowed by the "Orange Box" title in terms of recognition, which is a shame.

Nice list of games. I have no real complaints about that list, seems pretty fair. Much better than the BAFTA's :/

"Best game based on a movie or TV show: The Simpsons Game [surely "least rubbish game"? - Ed]"

    LOL!
  • Codework #19 4 years ago

So nice of them to make up the addictive category so Halo would win something. Certainly doesn't deserve the multiplayer one.
  • Kropotkin #20 4 years ago

All deserving IMHO. Not like the BAFTA's with their fixation over Wii freaking Sports.
  • smoothn00dle #21 4 years ago

spike should be name microsoft game show..

GOTY all 360s, what da fcuk?

  • deaner #22 4 years ago

  • smelly #23 4 years ago

    >GOTY all 360s, what da fcuk?

And every single one of the nominations was a shooter too.. *sigh*
  • zoidberg #24 4 years ago

Orange Box GOTY by far... 5 games in one? Come ON!
  • miiiguel #25 4 years ago

Can't you be modest and honest and admit what's fair ?
    - 360 had the best games this year (all genres)
    - Amazing shooters spawned.

You can then add: but, but we dislike MS (political shit), and we don't like shooters.

Zoid: Orange Box is not a game, it's a package - it should have won PotY.
