Spector and Woo join forces News

Warren Spector and movie director John Woo are collaborating on new property Ninja Gold, GamesIndustry.biz is reporting.

The project will be both a movie and videogame, with both titles developed alongside one another, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"The idea actually started with John Woo. He wanted to do something involving traditional ninjas in a modern-day setting," commented Spector.

"I know that my thought from the start was to develop something that would work just as well in games as in movies, and I know John was thinking along the same lines," he revealed.

"This was an attempt to create a concept that would work in, and be developed for, a variety of media simultaneously. That's something new for games and for movies."

John Woo is currently working with Midway on Stranglehold, a game designed as a sequel to the director's 1992 thriller Hard Boiled.

There's more industry news-apples than you can slice a samurai sword through over on GamesIndustry.biz.

For some weird reason I read that headline and though it was Phil Spector who was involved...

Now *that* would be one weird game...

"Ninja Gold"? "Traditional ninjas in a modern-day setting"? Sounds like the sort of film you'd find in a petrol station for one pound. Like Ninja Terminator, which is genius.

Sakura Killers Pt2!! All that waiting and hoping was worth it.

Now if that isn't a plot synopsis, I don't know what is.

Actually it was shite. Anything with Sho Kasugi in it is likely to be better entertainment. Talking of which, imdb tells me he is in an "in production" film called Return of the Ninja.

The ninja game will come with lots of multi-choice endings and random minutiae tucked away. The AI will suck terribly however.

Ninja Terminator - if it was a quid in a garage I would want a free snicker with it, and a kingsize one at that or i'd be demanding change.

Check out Ninja Terminator below.

Well... this IS an odd pairing to say the least. I mean, I love both Spector and Woo to bits, but, uhm, somehow I don't seem to be able to wrap my brain around this: Woo seems to be all about fantastic action and, even though I think Deus Ex might be the best PC game ever (I even liked Invisible War a fair bit) I don't really see Spector making a fantastic action game... But wait and see... I will almost certainly be buying it anyway...
