We can hardly believe it's good either.

Nice. I'm annoyed at teh PSP lacking online functions though.

I blame Sony. And George Bush.

It's about 600 times better than MGS4, not least because there's a game in it.

The best DS game since Zoo Keeper, and it gets an 8? Hrm.

I went with the PSP version over the DS version because I figured I would never use the online functions. I'm loving it, but then I do enjoy a good shoot-em-up.

DS version also great and use DS vibration add on to a good effect! Banging with the rhythm, boom boom boom!

I would never imagine that Space Invaders would be addictive but they have managed it!

Having played he demo of this game on the psp I'm not surprised by the score even the demo was good fun. Some of the weapon power ups are overpowered though, the laser is just insanely powerful.

yeah but overly powerful isn't always a good thing, at least not if you're going for a high score.

i love this game, for £12 everyone should buy both versions.

though i prefer the DS i guess.

I've not played the PSP version, but I can vouch for the DS version's greatness. Extremely addictive stuff and a joy to play.

The laser is a bit of a burden sometimes, those guys with the yellow reflector shields take forever to kill using it.

If you're unsure - try the PSP demo, its a blast! Who could have thought such simple gameplay could get so butched-up

Damn, I knew I should have bought this when I saw it in the store last week - I'm off on a short vacation tomorrow and it sounds like it would have been a nice game to bring along.

Strangely compelling. It's dragging me away from Professor Layton's Village. Poles apart in gameplay.

As to the laser - do not forget that you also move veeeery slowly while using it... Once you get the hang of it some levels can be treated as a kind of dynamic puzzle where you have to decide which power up you should get first... E.g. the bombs work wonders on shielded guys, the "penetrating laser" is good for tough invaders, the "sideways shot" is very effective in certain enemy formations, the laser is very nice if there are hordes of un-shielded enemies and I guarantee that you will wish you had a shield (4x black invaders) on certain levels. ^^

I've had this a couple of weeks now and I really dig it for quick dip gameplay.

It suffers from laziness in terms of options, though. I'd have welcomed the ability to turn off the background music, or at least turn it down a shade, and it would have been nice to have the original Space Invaders sound effects as an option for those of us who actually did cut their gaming teeth in arcades, back in the day.

Still, for the price it's going for in GameStation and the like, it's definitely worthy of being in your collection.

It's great. But my niggle is: no friends leaderboard.

I really am not interested in seeing what scores the ten best players in the world have. I want to see how I'm doing compared to my friends.

PSP version here, same reason as DDevil. It is indeed a fabulous reworking and great high score gaming. An 8 from me too :-)

Play.com has each version at £12.99 each - I'll probably go for the DS one, although my PSP has been getting more use lately.

EDIT - Ooo, so is Arkanoid, tempted...

Seriously mate, I'm surprised you haven't got this yet - thought it'd be the perfect game for you as I was playing it :)

Edit: It reminds me most, incredibly, of Rez :O

If you didn't think MGS4 was a game, Rev, I really pity you.

This does look very cool, though.

It is indeed, without a doubt the most shocking and shockingly good rehash of an old (even classical) game of the year. Both versions are excelent and... I really find it hard to realise that Space Invaders can be thisgood in 2008...

2nd good review I've read of this one...

I always loved Super Space Invaders (or Majestic 12 in some circles)

May well buy this one.

Does it still have the PsssshhhK sound effect when you shoot?
