Space Giraffe gets patch
Defends it from alien zebras.
Llamasoft will be tinkering with Space Giraffe later this week, and the results will be free to download.
You will no longer be allowed to indefinitely hold the power zone at its maximum on a given level, for starters, and enemies have wised up to being juggled and will not let you do it any more. And so they should; bullies.
Because of this, the leaderboards and start level bonuses will be refreshed, although you will still have all of your unlocked content available.
Space Giraffe is a tale of a safari animal that flew to the moon, as interpreted by the psychedelic mind of Jeff Minter. Like, but also not the same as, his older creation Tempest 2000, the idea is to navigate a grid-like area and blast enemies to rack-up a great big score.
We took a while to come around to it. Initially we found it confusing and bewildering, but after spending more time at its mercy found it to be addictive and satisfying.

Wonder how much of a difference the patch will actually make to how it plays...

'Initially we found it confusing and bewildering, but after spending more time at its mercy found it to be addictive and satisfying.'
Pretty much sums up the feeling of anyone thats bothered to go the distance with this.

I think this was a reference to the aforementioned LSD - rather than the game iteslf.

The patch fixes two exploits which some people were using to get higher scores than they would otherwise have been able to. I don't think most people will notice any difference unless they had been using these exploits. (One of them involves holding down the jump button and not letting go until a level is complete)
Excellent game, btw. Like many others I was confused and overwhelmed when I first played it (even with past experience of Minter games), but once I got the hang of it, it became clear that it's one of the best games of this year.

Oh, and poor broke Jeff isn't too skint to have just bought a new iPod Touch. Hope he made the mortgage payment first.

And what did we end up with? Gameplay that's far too similar to all the other homebrew-style games you get on XBLA, PSN and just about every Linux OS release... except with those trademark puke-inducing Minter visuals.
Sorry Jeff, but most of the rest of us grew up; we stopped taking acid and going to raves in the early 1990's.

I hope there are enough non-dull types out there to support him still.
