Soulcalibur IV for Europe in July News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

18 April, 2008

Ubisoft has said both versions of Soulcalibur IV will be out in Europe from 31st July.

This fresh instalment will be the first in the series to have online versus battles, equipment destruction, Critical Finishes and non-stop fights where strategy will be the key to prolonging your life.

There are new characters as well, such as Hilde with her short sword and armpit hair or bonus characters Scheherazade and Angol Fear.

Star Wars characters Darth Vader and Yoda will be playable, too, the former in the PS3 version and the latter for Xbox 360.

Soulcalibur IV also looks rather pretty, as you can see for yourself in our lovingly maintained gallery.

Awesome, that should be around the time I'm finishing with Euro 08 and GTA.

Great news... now to decide which version to pre-order! I want the PS3 version for Darth Vader but have a feeling that the Xbox 360 might be the best version technically (i.e. it'll have anti-aliasing at least!!!). :?

Hmm, I think 360 version for me I'm more curious about the little green fella than Vader.

@muscleblade - Thinking about it, I prefer the Xbox 360 controller to the PS3's Dualshock 3 and I've always played Soulcalibur with the analogue stick anyway not the D-pad so the fact the the 360 controller's is rather poor doesn't matter. Xbox 360 version it is then! Hopefully you're right about Vader appearing as DLC... :)

I'm getting the PS3 version... the DS3's d-pad is waaay better that the crappy one on the 360 controller - and Vader is cooler that Yoda ;)

Also, don't get surprised if the missing characters will be released/unlocked as DLC later anyway.

I don't expect the two versions to be any different technically. But why not just wait for the reviews instead of preordering?

I'm going with the 360, for the controller and I love Yoda. And there's no doubt we'll get Vader in the future.
But I'm definitely waiting for reviews after the travesty of the third game..

Remember that the original SoulCalibur is 360 exclusive. Think it would be awkward to use the 360 controller on the original and then change to the PS3 controller for 4. They probably release the two within the same week or so. I will be playing them both for sure.

How later do you reckon?

Would those be expensive I wonder. I don't think I wouldn't pay more than 2 or 3 quid for an extra Star Wars character...

Having played the original on the Dreamcast of yore extensively, AND being able to choose between platform of choice for this edition; getting the 360's is still an easy decision.

Anyone rambling on about the PS3's pad being more suited to the Soulcalibur series has not held or used the original Dreamcast pad for this purpose - it was excellent - and the 360 pad is quite similar, and very good.

When it comes to Vader - pish - so many wannabe BAAAD boys in da house. Let me spell it out:

THE DARK SIDE IS NOT COOL. It only looks that way, and it is seductive.

Superficial you are.
