Ehh... not compared to Metroid, Mario Galaxy, Smashbros, Umbrella Chronicles, Resi4, Zelda or even Dewey's adventure it doesn't. (the ones I can name off the top of my head)

It could use some nicer lighting, some bloom, and maybe some depth of field at times. Sure it's not a very powerful machine, but judging by those games, the Wii can do all those things at least and STILL have the environments not look bland as crap like they do in this game.

yes it does, because they're not in-game renders. as far as i'm aware the wii can't render at 2560 x 1792

i call shenanigans

The models and characters are lovely looking.
The environments are just dull, bland and boring.

I still want to play it, but perhaps less generic environment conditions might be the next step...

Hey greg, I wonder where you were the last, oh, five million times that screenshots of a PS2, Cube or Xbox game were released at insane resolutions?

Well, I guess even standard practices are still a chance for our greg to come and say something negative about the Wii. ;)

"our greg"? lol

i pointed it out because most people wont bother to full-size the images to see that they're renders and not ingame.

my goal in life isn't to make fun of the wii unfortunately. i comment on many games across many systems.

The way this works.. Games are developed through a pc. Game is set up to run with the shaders/quality/etc of the base console.

For magazine screenshots, games are run THROUGH THE ENGINE at higher resolutions so they look okay when printed onto paper.

Nearly all games do this. A screenshot of a game in a magazine at "normal" res would looks shite.

That will be running thru the engine though.. So the gfx will probably look like that (although it's pre-release so they'll end up looking better probably)

Its not as if those screens are showing anything that the wii cant do (apart from res)

i said they're not "in-game" renders, as in they're not exactly what you would see when you play the game. no doubt they use the game engine but upscaled, but it's still cheating.

i hate when companies release high res screenshots for magazines so people go "ohhh pretty" then when they get the game they're like "wtf this is nowhere near as sharp"

It's been going on since the playstation era, ever since it's been possible to render a 3d scene at a higher res than your game displays it as.

Its not to "trick" you, it's just that an in game screen at the correct resolution looks incredibly bad when printed at magazine resolutions (unless you make all the screenshots small).

It's not so much to make the screenshots look sharper than they appear. If you scale a screenshot up and stick it in a magazine, it'll look LESS sharp and MORE pixelated.

What if they printed a screenshot in a small screenshot in the magazine (in effect removing jaggies), but without altering the resolution of it? Would that be bad?

The actual resolution matters jack shit anyhows. This obsession with resolution most people have because they've bought into the marketing hype is quite sad - no-one cared before.

Those are (probably) in game shots. Just at a higher resolution, so if you care about such things, they'll be a bit more jaggy... Erm.. That's if you paused the game long enough to look and notice the jaggies..

I'll just repeat again what I said: why haven't I seen you complain about the same thing in the past five years on screenshot threads for all systems? If you have to pick this thread specifically to complain about something that's been standard practice forever, then yeah, considering your past comment record? It does indeed make it seem as if your goal in life is to troll the Wii. Then again, the same can be said for too many people. ;|

Smelly: last time there was a screenthread with upscaled screenshots I remember you saying something like "oh, renders, that must mean they haven't started making the game yet". :P

NAH.. BIG difference.

You can EASILY tell when a shot is an in game shot at higher res (such as this) and when a game is a blatent render (such as the other time, cant remember the exact circumstance.. but im sure you're correct)

Edit... Okay when a game isnt even from an in-game camera (pgr 4 shots par example)

Video of this I've seen makes it look a bit bland. But it does have Sophitia in it (in her DC era outfit as well) so I'm torn...

Hmm even for the Wii this is mostly bad looking.
I hope it plays as good as soul calibur 1, 2,3, then the looks won't bother me :)
