Sony winning Euro GTA IV battle

There's no way you're bored of this yet.

Predictably, while Xbox 360 does well in the UK the PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV has proven more popular in both the Spanish and German charts.

In Germany the Xbox 360 version took second, with the 360 special edition in sixth and PS3 special edition in eighth.

In Spain the Xbox 360 version only managed third behind Wii Fit, with the PS3 special edition in eighth and 360 special edition in 10th.

Mario Kart Wii also featured strongly, occupying fourth in both regions.

    I am bored of this, but in the interests of fanning the flames, how do the combined PS3 figures for Germany, Spain and the UK compare the same for the 360 version? I can't be bothered to check and I'm hoping Swam or someone might do the sums and proudly report them if they're in 'his' favour.

    So by "Euro", you mean 2 countries? There are figures for Holland from last week, for example, that show 360 selling more copies of GTA IV in that country. Isn't the headline rather misleading?

    Still think GTA IV deserves a 8/10, gameplay is just average and nothing new. Vice City and San Andreas were better. And as for the sales war, I couldn't give a ****, just give me Ninja Gaiden 2 and all Rare games for this year and I'll be a happy gamer.

    I do care which version is better/sells more.

    That is, I care more about that than anything to do with my uber boring job.

    Therefore I will happily continue reading these articles, and anything else Eurogamer decide to put up, until I either retire, or get fired.

    Most people on these threads are sounding like pissy little bitches. I'm all for a healthy debate but the twunts who reply to these threads moaning about the console wars are ruining it for those that want a proper slag fest.

    ...and yeah, we read these news stories - not exactly much to read but we read them.

    I'm thinking the staff of Eurogamer add these bits of news for their enjoyment only - I know I would if I worked for them!

    I am officially boycotting this fucking site due to all this GTA coverage and PS3 vs 360 articles. I own all the consoles and I've been a regular viewer of this site for probably 3 or 4 years and this whole GTA horseshit and PS3 vs 360 refresh rate competetion toss is utterly childish and uninteresting. So much for gaming being a mainly adult pastime, well done Eurogamer, you're now setting the image of gaming back by years. Lucky non-gamers don't read your site I guess. Just like I won't be anymore.

    Ahh but what was the difference in number of sales between 1st and second plave, and 6th and 8th place and when total sales are added together which console sold more?

    More importantly though why are there no news storys on how shit the social club is, as soon as I hit 100% it wiped all my stats

    Soooo... First off, GTA IV is selling loads more on PS3 than Germany than on 360... Oh except for the Special Edition, which is selling loads more on the 360 than on the PS3... Errr... Aren't these both the same game? Which is actually selling the most overall?

    Secondly; for fucks sake... you can spin this either way. In political terms this is not Labour pwning Tories in 1997 or er... the other way round in 2008... It's spinnable either way. PS3 is absolutely flooding its user-base, with a far higher percentage of PS3 owners buying the game. On the other hand, the 360 is selling way more copies of the game overall, but to a far smaller percentage of possible users.

    Thirdly when talking percentages of copies sold per console, nobody yet seems to be considering the age factor - the 360 may have shifted many many more consoles than the PS3, but it stands to reason that many of these 360 owners are under 18 and not old enough to own GTA IV legally. It's been acknowledged that the PS3 has an older average user age (unsurprising given the relative price) so presumably a larger percentage of PS3 owners are allowed to buy the game than the percentage of 360 owners...

    In short there's no genuine like for like way of measuring whose willy waves furthest. You'd have to only count people over 18 who own the consoles, figure out how many of them bought GTA, work out a percentile... You'd have to be a complete obsessive nerd...

    Oh hang on, I just saw the GTA IV technical faceoff on Eurogamer... ;-)

    I've just checked around my house, and I was the only one to buy a PS3 version of GTA.... Euro Gamer hasn't even put it on the front page yet. Slackers!!!

    All headlines are misleading. It's creative freedom to represent the truth in a slightly more interesting way. Every journalist does it.

    It seems Eurogamers reporting is getting more....balanced, not better or more informative but 'balanced'.

    But theres less good games on PS3 and PS3 is apparently selling better in those countries... so really as you spun it last time EG ;).... thats quite poor for PS3 as 360 is actually performing better in GTAIV sales percentage wise.

    Next article they will say... "Oops we were wrong, 360 is selling better in Europe, silly us, we forgot France, Holland, Itally, Sweden and everywhere else"

    Maybe they are just trying to stir things up until all the fanboys are all flamed out and cant be bothered anymore?
