Sony to take action over Uncharted gun News

PlayStation 3 News by Ellie Gibson

20 May, 2008

Sony Computer Entertainment has told our old friends GamesIndustry.biz there are plans to take action over Uncharted-branded air guns being sold on the Internet.

KingofSwords.com is offering the 'PS3 Uncharted Drake's Fortune Full Metal M92 Airsoft Gun' for USD 169.88. Real wood grips and everything.

The gun is being advertised using artwork from the game, but Sony said it has offered no official endorsement of the product whatsoever.

"The Drake's gun is not licensed or in anyway sanctioned by SCE, and one we certainly do not condone," a spokesperson told GI.

"We are investigating the source of this product and will proceed with the most appropriate action."

What a great bit of advertising for the company.
Before no-one would have heard about them, now I want one and know where to buy it!

"if the wielder drops the weapon, a fail-safe activates, deactivating the magnetic field without first dispensing the plasma, consuming the handle and destroying the weapon."

Wow, they have thought of everything (that isn't real).

I doubt Microsoft/Bungie need any more publicity. Sony on the other hand....

"I don't see why the company is upset."

Well copyright infringement is one reason. Whether its happened previously to other companies is hardly a reason to let it pass.

The other reason is that they might not like the idea of real model guns being sold in their name (hypocritical as that may be) and would not license such a thing even if they had been asked.

Dont suppose anyone has bothered to notice that the gun in the game and the gun on offer are completely different from each other.

The gun in the game is not a Beretta.

So this debate is pointless.

There's a wicked looking pair of Kratos' Twin Blades on that site that I've been eyeing up for a while, wonder if they endorsed those at all.

That is an M190 made by HFC. It is a non-trademarked 6mm gas blowback airsoft copy of a Beretta 92F with added full auto fire mode. Nothing about the gun itself has anything to do with Drake's Fortune; as has already been noted, the gun in the pictures of the game bears no relationship to the actual product on sale, and any connection is completely manufactured by the website in question, much like this:

http://www.battleorders.co.uk/acatalog/L...

which is the shop knocking out a pair of cheap USP replicas with a cheap holster and calling them Lara Croft Guns. Nice to see the corporate fact research machine in full action once again.
