Sony to release 10 Arc games by 2011

Including sports and pet-themed efforts.

Sony is set to release 10 games for the PS3 motion controller by the end of the year.

That's according to a Nikkei report (translated by Andriasang). The article says "around 10 or so" titles are on the way. No names are mentioned, but the games are said to include sports and pet care sims.

Sony's keeping quiet, of course, having not yet even announced a name for the motion controller. Word is it'll be called Arc, though. The new controller is due to launch this autumn.

Is one of the "pet-themed efforts" Eyepet updated for motion control? If so, isn't that kind of redundant?

Is that by the end of 2010 or the end of 2011?

    El-Dev:

PS3 Sports Resort perhaps, or maybe it'll be...

    PS3 Sports Resort-3D!!

    SportsStar sounds more Sony-like.

So, the only games we've heard about for the arc are sports games and pet care sims, and the one game we've heard about for Natal is a fitness game. Well, I guess that's put us motion control sceptics in our place then!

And here I was hoping for non-Wii look-a-like games..

Can't wait for some decent hardcore gamer motion-controlled games. Obviously I'll have to wait though....until Hell freezes over.

Was kinda hoping this would have some decent games and not resort to just being a more technically sophisticated Wii. Perhaps it will prove to be a slow burner and pick up momentum after the holidays when the third party efforts start hitting the stores.

With both the Wand and Natal, looking at the games that have been suggested for each I have a hard time thinking that either of these motion controllers are anything more than a stalling tactic to maintain interest in the current hardware before both companies are forced to sink millions (possibly more?) into the research and development of the next generation of consoles. I sincerely hope to be proven wrong next year when we see the third party reaction to these new toys.

Who are Nikkei? Business or gaming? Only if they're business (I think they are) they're going to namecheck the kind of games that are going to eat into Nintendo's market share of that genre, rather than specifics that we'd be more interested in. This doesn't mean we're not going to get more games like RE5 gold with Arc support. Or (prays) existing games retrofitted for Arc support (which won't affect existing control methods of course, before anyone complains!)

    "PS3 Sports Resort-3D"

Should be PS3 Sports Resort-4D, motion control starts when sony say so.

Also stroking your eyepet with a purple dildo just seems wrong.

erm, the 4th Dimension is time... I somehow doubt they are going to include time changing to their ps-mote.

    @farticuscmaximus

I hope I'm wrong but even the examples you give could just end up using the new tech as add on and unneccessry gimmicks to exising genres. If we do just end up with gimmicky add-ons and fitness type games I'll be extremely disappointed. Of course, I'm not a game designer so hopefully both companies are working on something that'll blow me away and then I'll happily eat my words. I just don't think we're seeing any evidence of that yet. Still, we'll wait and see.

Hardcore games are always announced AT LEAST a year before release, usually more.

I just can't see them announcing late 2010 titles at the E3, in June, at least not anything big.

    Could be the new PSWii!

10 games by 2011 is it me or is that not too good as you will of course need a few launch titles so thats quite a draught after.
