Sony quiet on leaked info rumours
PS3 price cut, Uncharted 2, LBP for PSP?
Sony Europe has declined to comment on the supposedly leaked contents of its staff annual briefing, dismissing the D+Pad report as "rumour and speculation".
The information, provided by an attending "source", included plans to be "more competitive" with PS3 pricing from March 2009.
Sony Europe boss David Reeves also said there will be technical innovations to come for both PS3 and PSP, although no details were given.
The source claims to have seen footage of Uncharted 2 and God of War 3, the latter of which apparently looked so pretty the mole couldn't tell if what he was seeing was CGI or not.
The trailer, we're told, showed Kratos destroying waves of skeletons and Cyclops with his trusty chain-swords, before hopping on the back of an eagle, killing it, and then staring into an immense cavern thought to be Mount Olympus.
Uncharted 2, on the other hand, was said to look much the same as Uncharted 1, which looked rather good anyway.
The source went on to say that Sony showed footage of LittleBigPlanet PSP, which Media Molecule has apparently been hard at work on for four months. Target footage of MotorStorm PSP was shown, too.
Apparently Sony Europe is also the pride of Sony Computer Entertainment, for the region has a higher PS3 installed base than Xbox 360.

The first "technical innovation" was the partial removal of PS2 BC, the 2nd was the total removal of BC. Maybe the next one will be the removal of PS1 BC?

Second source - though probably not all that unbiased where GoW is concerned

Wasn't the quote "PAL regions"? PAL isn't (only) Europe.

Jaffe was director on GoW and GoWII. Since left to form a new studio so not involved with GoWIII.

I found it quite noticeable in places too. While it's a nice game with lots going on and all it is a bit of a mishmash of game styles - none of which it excels in for my liking. The platforming elements control a lot better than TR for example, but lack any sort of depth or complexity in the puzzles - so it just becomes a method of getting from A to B.

Ha, ha, ha! Oh, please, please...stop making me laugh...it's too early in the morning and certainly too early in the week!
No, they're right, they're right, I'm sorry.
It's the pride of Sony for mugging gamers for all the £££ they can get, considering all other territories Sony products are sold in (where Sony is being defeated by a comfortable margin) are MUCH CHEAPER THAT UK/EUROLAND.
Please...Pull the other one, why don't you?!

Simple fact is, pre-rendered footage has not matched real-life yet and continues to improve. As long as pre-rendered quality is improving, on-the-fly (in-game) rendering will always lag behind.

Unfortunately it says a lot about the situation Sony is in that they have to look to a thin margin in a region they've largely ignored in the past - VGChartz suggests the PS3 has had at most a 200,000 lead in Europe over the past 6 months (out of a total of 14m consoles), but has lost most of that lead since the 360 price cut - hardly the kind advantage you would choose to crow about. If the 360 continues to sell as VGChartz claims it has been over the last 2 months, it'll overtake the PS3 again by xmas. Really Sony need that price cut NOW, not in March 2009.
It's nice that both Sony and Microsoft are paying attention to us finally though.

It's nothing to do with MGS having a wierd cult it's just a well polished, well designed and a very good looking game! Simple.

I think if Sony were competing within the same price range they'd be cleaning up now... however that's not the case and I have a feeling that this will be yet another Christmast dominated by Wii and 360... the owner of my local indi games shop said he was selling about 6 360's for every 1 PS3 this weekend.
I believe the guy... he's never shown any bias and if that really is the case then Sony need to drop that price sooner than March.
(BTW: I'm now on XBox 360 no 3 for the record - I guess MS count these as new sales?).

And yet we still have to wait months for stuff and then pay double for it.
Or are we only being forced to do that because we have so many Sony fanboys here willing to do that?

By definition, every game ever released on any console has visuals equal to CG standard, because they are graphics being produced by a computer. The term "CG" does not relate to any benchmark of quality - merely that the visuals were produced by silicon.

Couple that with the exceptence of a recession hit economy and I think this year going into the next (as governments act to encourage consumer spending) will be very interesting.

That's just regular PR bluff hoping to convince the people on the fence to 'jump in' now instead of waiting longer with the possibility of not getting the product at all because they either lost interest or went for the competition. Don't read too much in there.

It's all speculation of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 360 doesn't start to sell serious numbers this holiday season we'll see another price drop somewhere at the end of next year. Last year 360 sold less than in its first and despite significant price drops they'll have a hard time selling as much in 2008 as they did in 2007. Not exactly signs that the console is reaching a broader audience. MS went for PS2 market size and however charmingly naive that might have been, if the 360 doesn't accomplish its mission, MS will probably replace it for another try.
