Sony quiet on Euro PS Store relaunch

Despite April 15th date for Japan.

Sony has told Eurogamer there is no news regarding the arrival of the latest firmware and redesigned PlayStation Store in Europe.

It was speaking after the company's Japanese arm revealed both would be available simultaneously over there on 15th April.

The relaunch of the PlayStation Store will include a treasure hunt to win one of 50 vouchers to spend, each worth JPY 3000.

It should help users get to grips with the new layout, which was redesigned for easier navigation after a survey concluded people were getting lost and missing their dinner.

The contents of firmware version 2.30, according to our very rough translation, will improve navigation, add some sort of slideshow feature to preview downloadable content - probably videos, add recommendation and trial features to PSN games, and do some sort of nifty shopping cart something or other. Glad we cleared that up.

Look out for the update next week, then.

I doubt even SCEE will be able to fuck up a firmware update and store relaunch... oh wait...

I thought it had already been confirmed that the new PS Store would be launched mid-April? I always assumed it was the 17th April, i.e. next week.

Yeah, Thursday of next week. They said nearly two weeks ago the store change will take two weeks. Get your bloody act together SCEE.

Sony have never been ones to not fulfil release dates.

hardly golden treasure at 3000 yen (about 15 quid)

Could be a week after that, as Infinity Ward and Criterion both have announced the release of their DLC then.

And pretty please, with whipped cream on top, and chocolate sprinkles, let us have a go at the Home beta.

An empty cupboard with a new lick of paint is still an empty cupboard.

"An empty cupboard with a new lick of paint is still an empty cupboard."

Now there's your problem - I tend to play my games on one of my consoles or a PC. Cupboards are shit for games.

/will troll all the cupboard threads to spread my anti-cupboard fanboy NONSENSE.

@phatb0y: But you can open and close it faster to see that it's empty and save time :)

Why on earth would you want that? Wait for the release, then there *might* be something interesting to see. Right now it's just an empty 3d platform. Or so I've heard ;-)

Home functionality sounds good, although i seriously doubt many multi platform 3rd party devs dedicating too much time to creating "home sections" for their games.

Teehee, April 15th is my birthday, beyotches :D

Gotta give it to Sony, good date!
  • 3william56 #14 4 years ago

I thought it was all a given as the 17th, as that's when the glacier Warhawk expansion is out.

(and dr_shambles - a couple of hours hardly counts as a delay. Not exactly Duke Nukem (or GT PSP!) is it?)

Hang on a second! Sony already said there would be no updates to the store for the next few weeks due to the european relaunch. How did that suddenly become "We don't have a date for the relaunch in europe"?

"The new Euro PS Store - coming to your PS3 June 15! ... Or maybe around September. We're not really sure yet."

Well, whenever it's ready - and I'm certainly hoping for this month, even if we are talking about SCEE - I just hope that the promised "surprise" includes WipEout HD. But I sort of imagine it won't :).

Limited Home beta for the Japanese market, with integrated PSN Store.

    I reckon.

Enhanced PLAYSTATION®Store Launches on 15th April
Redesigned with Improved Interface for Easier Navigation New Content Available — Metal Gear Solid Online Beta Trial Launches

On 15th April, the new look PLAYSTATION®Store, the online content store on PLAYSTATION®Network launches; bring with it improved navigation, more functionality and a whole raft of new content.

The revamp comes in response to a survey last year which showed that many PLAYSTATION Store users wanted a better interface and easier navigation. The new design will deliver a hugely improved navigation system, much greater scope for categorisation and a dynamic new user interface.

To accompany the launch, the PLAYSTATION Store will see an exciting selection of content available from 17th April, consisting of the launch of the Metal Gear Online Premiere Beta, building up to the launch of the next chapter in one of PlayStation’s most loved franchises, Metal gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots. Also available will be Warhawk™: Operation Broken Mirror, a great new addition to the hugely popular Warhawk experience and Lair™: Diabolical Dragons Pack and Skyguard Upgrade pack, offering new and exciting features and functions. There will also be a collection of trailers including the latest for GTA IV, as well as a Sega Superstars tennis demo.

The PLAYSTATION Store revamp will not affect PLAYSTATION Network accounts or the virtual wallet system.
