Robert,

Re: "It launches here this October for a hefty GBP 250."

Does it? I didn't think UK pricing was announced yet, and skimming the story you linked to I can't see mention ok UK pricing there.

249EUR equates to 249GBP in the technology currency conversion.

I guess they're not doing trophy support as the battery life wouldn't last the stupidly long time it takes to sync everytime you view them

250 US dollars is currently £155 so i dont reckon we will come in at £250, but Europe has been screwed over compared to US price so i doubt we will get off too easily.

I assume what he means is that he thinks the nasty hackers who put together custom firmware will bust the system wide open and allow people to unlock trophies at will.

He's probably right.

It's available for pre-order at Amazon for 229.99 with a discount from 249.99, which seems to be its "offcial" price.

...sync everytime you view [Trophies]

That's not true.

Sony not doing Trophies for PSP

That's too bad, but understandable, considering cheating concerns.

I'll only buy a Go if you can put custom firmware on them anyway. If not I'll stick to my Euro launch day enormous PSP :)

WHO GIVES A FUCK??

Trophies and gamer points are lame now. Admittedly, at the start on the 360 they did actully push me to play a game some more past a point where i would have normally got bored and flogged it, but then when I realised that was just becasue I wanted a large score I thought what the fuck for? Am I that insecure Ineed bragging right to friends to make myself feel superior? Once I realised that I didnt care about them, especailly as points started being awared for just doing tutorials and rubbish like that.

As for my PS3, trophies is even more lame then gamerpoints. At then end of the day, im not saying they need to be removed cos they dont, I guess any additon is good as long as people think so - but really, initially it seemed like a good, revoultionary thing but nowardays does anyone really care about points and trophies. Its so "last get" even when its the current gen.

As for my Wii, with no gamerpoints or acheivements, does it make it any less of an experience? Does it heck (unless you are a 360 or PS3 fanboy who like to put the wii down of course).

People play games for fun, and for a laugh. Only people I know who actually give a damn about points and trophies are thos insecure people who spend £130 on a shirt as it makes them feel better than buying a nice one for £40. They serve no purpose but to show others what you have done, and although some think bragging rights are great and may improve their well being somewhat, it detracts from the fact that gaming is suppost to be about fun first, and not acheivement and/or completion first.

(btw, i just bought my 3rd PSP at weekend so Im not biased against the machine before I get jumped on, as you can see -i have all 5 main consoles so am hardly a fanboy of either, theyre all great).

Does it matter if people cheat? Who cares? I like trophies/achievements because they often give me nice extra things to aim for in a game. Stuff you wouldn't necessarily try out otherwise. I don't care at all about total scores, or how many points other people have. How does it affect me in the slightest if other people I don't even know hack their score in some way?

For me, achievements (not so much trophies, as I only have an XBox 360) are often a great added value to a game. I don't get achievements to show off my gamerscore, I try to get achievements to... well... achieve something. If I can unlock an achievement in a game by doing something that's really hard to do, then I get a kick out of doing it. The achievement itself is the reward for doing it, as if my XBox is saying "well done mate". I like it when my XBox is giving me compliments. It makes me all warm and tingly inside.

I thought exactly :)

I didn't care about achievments/gamerscore on my 360, and I didn't care about it on PS3 either.

Same for Trophies, for me. I'm unaware of the differences between the two systems, to be honest. They seem identical to me, in all practical terms.

To me they seems extremely similar...

Simple answer, NOTHING.

They are both totally useless.

There are many diferences. For once, Achievements have rules, not like Trophies where devs can put 2000 in a game if they want to. Then again, you don't have to "sync" anything with Achievments, they're there, as soon as you unlock them. Every game has it (1K Gs) DLC have (250Gs per package to a maximum of 1750) - it's good to know they were not an after thought.

And what are they for?
Well, to me it's a personal thing, it's not competitive, I just like to do them. I was always a completionist, Achievements is like a database of my gaming acomplishments. It's for me though, not to show off.

on-topic: the guy's right though, there's a strong possibility that the filthy hackers who proliferates on PSP would kill the - not yet that good - system. 360 had a similar problem in its infance, glad MS managed to catch them filthy dudes and reset their gamertag. Sony is doing the right thing on this one.

It really wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the PSP Go got a price-cut before release.

Think about it; its pretty certain that Sony will re-launch the PS3 (in its slim form) before the end of the year, and in so doing slice $50 - $100 off the price-tag.

Are they really going to sell the PS3 at less than the cost of the PSPGo? I can't see it.

Well you're wrong there I'm afraid smoison.
For most people achievements and trophies give an added incentive to do play games in certain ways and do things they might not normally do. You can ignore them if you like and it doesn't affect your experience of the game one bit or they are perfect for getting more out of a game for those that want to.
Personally I don't try for all trophies on every game but there are some that interest me, trophies on Monsters was great for example.

hahahhahaha. Good post.

Mind you, even IF that was the case and I was embarassd about it, I wouldnt like my 360 profile to my username. 360 is my least used console, but if i bothered about gamerscored I wouldnt let others see it. haha. (plus I have the attention span of a flea with games and get bored of them after about half of the game and flog em hah). But alas, after owning near every system of the last 20 years, I don't dobt my skills. I just dont have to brag about them to everyone to make me "appear" to be good gamer when they can be hacked and manipulated easily anyway. :-)

@miiiguel: So unlimited numer of trophies is a bad thing?... and if so, which game(s) is this a problem or disadvantage for?

Trophies are activated online if you are online - the sync is for the local database afaik. Not really a problem - unless you want to make it so.

Your are still a PS3-hater, Miiguel?...

Gamerscores and trophies arn't that similar no. They just both give acheivements. I think the interface of the 360 system is better than the ps3, even though I hardly play my 360. In fact, I dont even know what trophies I have on my PS3, ive never intentionally looked. haha

@Beano: no buddy, no hater (please don't say that) - I do have a bloody tooth ache. Anyway, yes I do think unlimited number of Tophies per game is a bad move, it's lilke having a football game with unlimited time so you can score as many goals as you like.
PS3 has things in it which are very good such as the Blu-Ray, some games like Uncharted, but Trophies are not one of them, well at least comparing them with Achievements.

@ bigo

THANK GOD!! I have thought the same for ages now - that half the game, or at least a 1/3 of a games acheivements are in relation to online play. That really pisses me off - games like Gears and Fifa etc. I dont wanna play them online thanks. Theyre toss online, and tend to refreain from playing lots of games online. So why did we have to do without points just cos we were not "on-line" groupies?

It is things like this which stopped me caring about acheivements anymoe.
