Exciting mysterious writer on board.

Sony is in talks to produce a movie version of the latest instalment in the Getaway series.

That's according to Katie Ellwood, who wrote the screenplays for the first two games. She's now working on Getaway PS3, which is due out at some point.

Speaking to DenofGeek, Ellwood revealed a big screen adaptation is in the works - and said this isn't the first time Sony has considered such a thing.

"Sony did work on and develop a screenplay for the first Getaway," she confirmed. "However, by the time it was ready, we were releasing the sequel and the story had changed.

"We are certainly talking to production houses about a movie for the third game in the Getaway series," Ellwood continued.

"The story and game script for this one is very exciting, as is the writer we have on board. I'm afraid I can't give any further information, other than to say: watch this space."

We would, but we're already watching the space the actual game is supposed to appear in. Meanwhile, there are plenty of screenshots over in the gallery. All right three.

The Getaway is the worst game I have ever played. Every time I think about it it makes me angry. I only paid 4 pounds for it and I still feel robbed. I can't believe EG gave it 8/10. By their own criteria a horribly broken game should get a 2 or 3 at best and that game is the definition of horribly broken.

I would say its the only game I genuinely hate.

It seems that The Getaway was possibly one of EG's promo-review-thingies.

Like 'Lost' The game, Sega Rally, Halo 3, Pro Evo...

The obvious bad points / missing bits of these games seem to have been mysteriously ignored in the published review... then later on other members of the team say: 'I don't think it's anywhere near that good, but I didn't review it! If I did it would have got...'

hmmm...

some of the recent news stories have been very suspect too...

All hot air. This'll never happen. Thankfully.

It'd be nice if they got the damn game out first, considering it was used as a demonstration of the PS3's power a long time ago. But I suspect it'll miss the boat by a long way, what with GTA IV arriving soon. Ah, well.

I loved The Getaway.
I somehow managed to see past all the flaws and just enjoy it for what it was, which was a really "cinematic" game.
The sequel sucked a fat one though.
