Sonic to star in Smash Bros. News

Nintendo has revealed that our old friend Sonic the Hedgehog is to appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the first Wii instalment in the olden days fighting series.

That's according to Japanese blog Ge-maga (via IGN), reporting on a Nintendo press conference held this week.

It was also confirmed that Sonic will be able to turn himself into Super Sonic in Smash Bros. He won't be the only videogame hero to cameo in the game, of course - Solid Snake is set to join in the fun, with actor David Hayter to reprise his role.

Also at the conference, Nintendo confirmed that previously announced plans for online play are shaping up nicely. Seems there will be a co-op mode, although it's not yet clear how this will work.

There was some bad news - Smash Bros. has been delayed and won't now arrive in Japan until 24th January. It wasn't due out in Europe until next year anyway, but here's hoping this doesn't mean we'll have to wait even longer.

C'mon we live in Europe and typically have to wait months for Wii games that have been released in the US and Japan, I can't Super Smash Bros. Brawl being any different. It'll be Easter 2008 when we get this game, you mark my words. ;)

How bout you Eurogamers actually visit the Brawl site from time to time? It was announced a while ago.

Yay for Sonic, what a great way to wake up.

Its a pity that we will probably have to wait so long for this game but, nevertheless i am pleased.

I watched the Sonic vid at least 6 times now. Bloody epic!

Monster Hunter 3 has moved from PS3 to Wii

DS Demo Channel officially announced for Wii

Wiiware (wii new game/software download service) is getting a new Dr mario, Pokémon Ranch, Star Soldier R, a karaoke service (from Hudson...in Japan anyway) and a new Final Fantasy download game ...Final Fantasy: CC - The Little King and Country of Promise .

Mario Kart out spring 2008..now with added motorbikes.

Wii Music was shown off again.

Mario Baseball for Wii

...oh and Fire Emblem is coming to DS.

Can you play europeans online with a PAL wii? If so, i'm buying a US console. They have it much better over there.

EDIT: And i'm pre-ordering this game with the console, of course. Seriously, the only other game i've ever pre-ordered is Shadow of the Colossus :).

I think thats the final nail in the coffin for the Sonic franchise which has got progressively worse. It shows that Sega are afraid to put him into a game of his own after his last outing in a game only fit to be a coaster.

Just watched the trailer after reading this announcement in work and having to wait until I got home to see the video!

It looks awesome. With this and Metroid coming soon I don't think I can resist the Wii much longer.

If the online component is decent - then the game will become WAY more important to the general hardcore gamers.

Nintendo better get their finger out and sort this out - because it will DIRECTLY affect my number of Wii/360 game purchases.

Nintendo - sort out your online service infrastructure!
