Sonic compilation for DS in March

Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Sonic & Knuckles.

SEGA has announced plans to release a DS Sonic compilation next March.

Called Sonic Classic Collection, it rounds up the usual suspects: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles.

SEGA says the quartet have been "optimised" for the DS, at least to the extent that they receive a save-anywhere feature so you don't have to start again every time.

There's no word on any special touch controls or anything like that, and curiously the Sonic Classic Collection screenshots released yesterday only show one of the screens.

This will definitely be the last time Sega re-release Sonic the Hedgehog.

Has anyone else noticed that there seems to be Sonic AND Knuckles within Mushroom Hill? That's never happened before.

That's good news, I'll sadly re-buy these bloody games AGAIN.

What is wrong with me? A misguided sense of nostalgia?

So whats on the other screen ?

I'm guessing a logo and bugger all else.

Instead of including Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles separately, they should just include Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Good plan. Should have included Sonic CD though. Sonic R would've been nice as well.

This will definitely be the last time Sega re-release Sonic the Hedgehog.

In this generation of consoles at least anyway. Same with Nintendo and the Mario games.

Has not everyone already got all of the Sonic games on some other platform... :). I have it on both one of those cheap TV games devices, on the Wii and on the Sega collection... no more :D

Hmmm, how much have I spend on these specific sodding games in the last 17 years?

I had each original MD cart, bought Sonic jam, the gamecube Sonic collection, the Xbox Sonic collection when my Cube broke, The PSP collection for playing on the choo-choo, the XBLA versions for achievements and the Bloody Ultimate mega collection on 360.

Do I honestly need to own these games AGAIN?!?! Its not like the profit will be spent on anything worthwhile. Y'know, like a a patch to remove the werehog from Sonic Unleashed, or a decent PS3 port of Bayonetta......

As long as re-releases keep selling, Microsoft, Sony, Sega, Atari, Nintendo, et al will keep re-releasing.

    Sold!

Had the Mega Collection on Cube for years and years, been wanting a portable version of these games for ages now =)

I just hope they have the sense to include the option to play through Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles as the one game, Sonic 3 & Knuckles....

Also, I've still never played Sonic CD, despite everyone going on about how amazing it is, they should include that too and have a definitive collection of old generation 2D Sonics....

It's re-releases like this, and crappy ports/sequels, that let companies buffer the losses they make on the bigger budget titles though, like Bayonetta. It doesn't hurt anyone except the poor mug (Like me) who feels obligated to buy them :)
