The SOCOM: Confrontation keys are all gone. Congratulations to everyone who got hold of one and sorry if you missed out.

Apologies particularly to those of you who missed out because accessing the website between 4 and 5pm was difficult. SOCOM was a very popular attraction and our amazing super-strong server struggled to deal with your enthusiasm.

I thought it would be useful for Mark Kennedy, Eurogamer's lead technical person or whatever, to explain why the hell we shouldn't sack him on the spot and set fire to him. "Imagine going to the pub, and instead of everybody waiting for the barman to get round to serving them, they just all shout out their orders," Mark told me.

"If they don't get their drink in one second, they just shout the order again and the barman really can't concentrate on what he's doing and everybody gets their drinks slower," he concluded, joblessly. So yes, we're sorry about that.

On the plus side, we're trying to convince Sony to give us some more, so with any luck there will be another chance soon. Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the beta!

On the plus side, the site should be usable again now at least.

I wonder how many keys were claimed by non-UKers, and therefore wasted? Or do the keys work on a UK account if you're in (eg) the US?

i love the game i got all the socom PS2 and PSP game and cnt wait for the PS3 it sucks that i was downloading a big file that made me laggy when they start giving beta keys out

You have a point but there is an up side.I myself was new to EG last year, what drew me here from the animal pit of Gamespot? The COD4 beta.

While it's nice to reward existing members I'm sure the key giveaways also encourage more people (like me) to join the abuse and laughs available to all on EG and increase the user base (and ad revenue no doubt!)

I've never heard so many cry babies...Eurogamer has said it will ask for more beta keys, so be patient, and anyway the game is out in just over a month. Still i've been playing the beta this evening and it's very impressive, but has anyone else noticed that every now and then it sort of freezes for about half a second, sort of like lag but i don't think it's lag, anyway it's not ruining the experience at all but i hope it either disappears or isn't in the final product. Thanks again Eurogamer and Sony.

well so far I haven't been able to get a game, only been in the lobby system for a very long time. Let's hope that changes for the final game.

Another poor effort by the looks of things. Never noticed any lag personally, but oh my goodness, the controls are horrendous, everything just feels last gen. Didn't think anything could top the mess of a beta that was Red Faction Guerilla on 360, but this takes the biscuit for such a supposedly high profile game. Not a patch on GRAW 2

I have a key, downloaded, installed and I was expecting to enjoy a smooth experience, like the CoD4 Beta and Halo 3 beta on my cousin's 360. But what I get is a POS unplayable game. Sure it is beta, but they shouldn't release somethinhg in this state.
I am a Socom fan since Socom II, and I really wanted to play this game since I heard it for the first time in 2007. But it sucks at the moment.

Loadings are too long, it crashes frequently, I get to respawn and some parts of the HUD dosen't show up, the charecter is frozen ( the game is ok, but pressing the keys on the SixAxis does nothing, tried with another controller), the menu navigation is slow (just to swap a wepon takes too much time because it has to load the models ), the calender is broken, too much lag and slowdowns (really, the game looked like a PowerPoint slideshow, like 5 fps or worse), etc...

Fingers crossed that they fix all of this BS tommorow or Sunday.

Seasidebaz - chill out mate. I 100% haven't left joined left joined any games... i've played one game without people i know so far. The only thing i can think of is that you've got the wrong guy mate. My earlier post was based on my first 2 hours in the game which were disappointing. But as i just posted earlier, i'm actually really enjoying this game! Therefore i've deleted my "doom mongering" post as you so eloquently put it.

i agree with you , played a whole game no slow down or anything.

what i think people need to remember this is a beta there will be problems like the network connecting problem took me 10 attempts last night to even get logged on or there will be slow map loading until it all gets optimised plus i reckon there will be a big patch early next week.

one last thing sure vent your anger here but make sure you tell the coders about it in a beta report or they cant fix what isnt broke.

yes i agree its a beta. But if they put out so many codes across the world they should of known that the server would be full and opened up more servers granted.But imagine u just bought confrontation in a bundle for 50 quid get home install it then you try logging on and u have the problems of last night you would be pretty pissed thats why u have beta to iron out any problems before game is put out on shelfs i myself would rather have the problems with something i got for free !! than something i payed for.

Well, I was playing last night for a few hours, met some French guys, some German guys and another language - all knew English and all got thier Beta codes from Eurogamer - nothing like totally shafting the rules of the offer!

With regards to the game, better than I expected, to take Crossroads and make it better is very impressive (loving the vantage points now) - Graphically, its average, but audibly its above average by a long way! PCM audio sounds incredible and the surround sounds works tactically to your advantage! Here's top hoping that Sony release more codes, especially with the number of non UK members who abused this sites offer.

Played for a while yesterday after lots of cocking around trying to get into a game, and once you play a few rounds you quickly get the old socom rush coming back, objectives make this game the best coop title still to this day. sure COD4 is quick flashy and fairly addictive but when you strip it down its very repetitive. i'm very optomistic that once beta is over, slant 6 have ironed out a few issues, that socom confrontation is going to rule the gaming world!!!

the beta is not all too bad, defintly teething problems, but once i got into game i found that it was a very enjoyable online experience. The character customization is very good. for those getting initializing network failed this is what i do. turn off your ps3 into standby mode, then switch it off from the back, then turn it back on and load up the beta again once your logged into PSN.

Let me say this now. The game for a start looks outdated, the graphics are terrible! i mean it looks like a next gen day 1 release. How it plays well put it this way atm it just feels really outdated, i doubt i will get this at retail another sony let down for me i am afraid. I am glad to see it supports clans. But that is the only good point so far. Before you flame this game is one month away from release so i doubt things will get a whole lot better. :S

It's hard work trying to play this beta, most the time you can't get on the servers and the load times are the longest i've ever seen, although apparently it's related to server load. It also crashes a fair bit and even locked up my PS3 a couple of times.

The menus are so slow when outfitting your characters it's painful.

Game isn't too bad once you're in though, although nothing stands out as extra special.

Boer-Harms: Yes in fact my first computer was an Atari 65XE. No idea about graphics and gameplay huh.... Well ok i guess you do not expect things to improve because i do. I have all the latest gen consoles and while the X360 is the only one pushing the bar with the exception of MGS4 because that was an amazing game, in my view game of the year. I have to look at this game and tell the truth about it. While it is fairly fun i did expect it to push the playstations 3 hardware and compared to other games out there say... COD4 this game looks not next gen at all. As for gameplay yes it is fun and i like the support for the community and clans. I just expect more from a game that has such a high profile. So answer the question... why at this point in the consoles life cycle does it look like the original ghost recon release on X360?

I got my code and finally managed to get into a game on Saturday morning, there have been a lot of negative comments about games graphics etc which having finally got in I have to say I was surprised as it was no where near as bad as some of the comments posted on here. I think that sometimes people forget that PS3 is still very much in it's infancy! I do agree that the character options are extensive but it is a laborious and extremely time consuming process. The whole lobby system and load times are extremely frustrating. Once everyone in lobby has clicked to say they are ready it takes ages to load up - 5 minutes is shortest I have had so far! If you only have a spare hour to play then don't expect to be playing many games in that hour. I expect/hope this will improve as they sort out server issues. If it doesn't improve towards the end of the beta period then i will probably not purchase and wait for COD5 or Resistance 2. However still thanks to EG and Sony for opportunity of getting BETA.

i dwloaded the beta on the ps3 in my living room an played it but i then tried the 1 in my bedroom with the same account i managed to dowload it but i get an error (an error occured during the start up opperation anyone no y that is

hola, creo que lo que habeis hecho con la beta de socom confrontation esta muy mal por que no es logico que unos jueguen y otros no,que al final es publicidad para sony de ese juego. La duda ya es si me lo voy a comprar por que como siempre los que perdemos somos los que encima pagamos. ESPERO QUE SE ARREGLE y que haya codigos para todos yo necesito 1 por que encima hay gente negociando con vuestro producto.
