Smash Bros. maps every day

Get creative with Stage Builder.

The official Super Smash Bros. Brawl website has trumpeted that Super Smash Bros. Brawl will come with its own Stage Builder.

It all looks very simple and easy to use, too, with big and clear instructions as well as lots of opportunities to try out your half-finished creations.

Once you are happy with it you can pop online and send it through to Nintendo, who will send out a new user-created map to all the Smash Bros. owners around the world every day.

Once you have spent an evening punching Mario in his hairy face on the unique creation it will disappear, as the idea is to have a new flavour every day - "a once-in-a-lifetime encounter".

Pop over to the official website for some pictures of the Stage Builder in action.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a beat-'em-up featuring characters like Solid Snake, Kid Icarus, Sonic the Hedgehog, Peach, Fox McCloud, Samus, Pikachu and co.

Head into our Super Smash Bros. Brawl gamepage to see how it's shaping up.

    This is good.

    This isn't.

    a once-in-a-lifetime encounter

Translation: we don't want to commit too much server space or risk having stupid people flood thier entire Wii full of maps and have memory issues.

Sounds very good to me. I wouldn't bother scrolling down an ever-expanding list of mostly-crap stages every time I wanted to try a fresh stage. This way, it kind of works like a random stage generator, only better. Because it isn't random.

Cue Daily Mail shock story of parent who finds their child playing on a stage in the shape of a huge penis......

Yeah I think it's good news that it's like a random stage generator this way. A new stage every day would grow into an unmanageable pile of steaming crap soon enough.

Well, maybe they'll have a "best of" list after a while, so you can keep playing some of the better ones.

This is a really good idea. You should be able to rate each one after you've played it. At the end of the year they could compile the best, say, 10 as a WiiWare download.

Or you can just remake them yourself.

They might have a 'save to Wii' option yet. The Smash Bros site isn't exactly the most detailed pice of marketing ever concocted...

    @HogLumps

That's why it says it has to be sent to Nintendo before they put it up for people to download.

Do you need friend codes to play online though?

Can we have something similar on Portal please?
It's such a good game yet very short - a map building option would make the game infinately replayable.

From the sounds of it you can keep the levels you make yourself forever, but the "level of the day" function will only keep for one day. So if you like the level, just build it yourself.

The PC has the SDK (I think it's out in a few days) and a proper level editor (worldcraft/hammer, which is already available for QuakeX/HL2).

It'd be unusable on a console though.
