Smash Bros. conquers Japan chart again

Nintendo claims 22 spots in top 30.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl has battled its way to the top of the Japan charts for a second week running, after busting through the one-million-sales barrier after just 11 days on sale.

It sold just over a quarter of a million copies this week, according to Media Create figures, and was miles ahead of second place tongue-twister Mobile Suit Gundam: Gihren's Ambition, The Axis Threat on PSP with 123,000. Wii Fit was at three with a paltry 65,000 copies sold.

Meanwhile, the rest of the top ten returned to its Nintendo-dominated state, with seven of the top ten - and 22 of the top 30 - for Wii or DS platforms.

The two anomalies in the list were Devil May Cry 4 for PS3 at four and Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut at nine.

The full chart is as follows:

  1. Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii)
  2. Mobile Suit Gundam: Gihren's Ambition, The Axis' Threat (PSP)
  3. Wii Fit (Wii)
  4. Devil May Cry 4 (PS3)
  5. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS)
  6. Wii Sports (Wii)
  7. L, the Prologue to Death Note: Rasen's Trap (DS)
  8. Family Ski (Wii)
  9. Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut (PS2)
  10. Mario Party DS (DS)

Are we getting an import review of Smash Bros then?

PS3 fourth with DMC4 and that is indication of growing success? Although Wii Fit at third and only sold 65k so PS3 DMC sold how many?

something tells me Nintendo is missing out by having huge delays between regions with games like this...

Japan is lost to Sony this generation. There is no way I can see that they can possibly make a dent in the big N's dominance over there, all they can do is hope to beat the 360 in the rest of the world and muster up maybe half as many total sales as the PS1 if they're lucky.

The 360 never had a look-in there anyway, so that's pretty irrelevant.

It's not as bad as it once was! By the time we got Mario 3, Japan already had the SNES and Mario World!

I just received this game and a Jap wii to play it on from play-asia, here's your import review: It's ruddy amazing. Well worth the £280 I paid because I'm a loser.

Subspace Emissary mode is epic, I was surprised at how long it was - it took me 9 hours to complete it. Certainly a far cry from single player modes in previous smash bros games. The final boss is ridiicculously hard too, which I liked :D

My biggest gripe so far is that the default controls for the classic controller are rubbish, and if I forget to select my profile with redefined buttons it throws me completely off. Wiimote only would be nice if the wiimote had more buttons, and Wiimote and nunchuck just feels weird. I think I'm gonna need a wavebird.

My second biggest gripe is that the level-portions of the SSE get repetitive, and you find yourself begrudgingly trawling through it just to get to the next awesome cutscene... And then near the end it does something ridiculously cheap just to pad out the game.

Those biggest gripes are only tiny little gripes mind you. I love this game so hard.

Is it just me that hates 90% of the games that turn up on the Japanese charts? DMC rocks though.

Is Super Smash whatever going to a big deal here (Europe)?

    Am I missing something ?
Every US site has been churning out new characters and new level announcements for the last 12 months and I don't really see what all the fuss is about...

well, the 3 reviews up on metacritic so far all have 100%. Nintendo power gave it 100, which wouldn't be surprising, other than the fact they gave galaxy 95.

It's just really good fun, my playtime on melee. is insane and I still end up playing it a fair bit.
