Skate 2 set in entirely new city News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

20 May, 2008

Electronic Arts has leaked the first information for skateboarding sequel Skate 2.

According to two teaser-style trailers - What happened to that Dude? and What happened to San Vanelona? - the action will take place in an entirely new city where no you're not allowed to use your skateboard.

The authorities are cracking down on it, you see, which means harsher penalties than tickets and plenty more obstacles to supposedly stop you rolling wherever you please.

Skate 2 has been officially unveiled as a 2009 title for PS3 and Xbox 360.

The original was a debut into the skating arena for EA, but landed its tricks neatly to score higher than genre veteran Tony Hawk's Proving Ground.

Head over to our Skate review to find out why.

Sounds annoying. The best thing about Skate was that you could just go around at your own pace, and not be bothered by the things this game sounds to be bringing in.

the first was amazing, but im not sure if involving the police and security would make the game more fun...

This sounds like they're encroaching on Tony Hawk territory.

The best thing WAS the overall pacing and general "skate where you like" attitude. Refine ideas, EA, don't ruin them.

Hmm. Hope it doesn't ruin the chilling feeling of the first. It's nice not to be under pressure all the time.

In fact, the parts where you had to skate in the "forbidden" zones were my least favourite by a long shot.

No. No. No. It smells like a storyline.

I don't want any kind of story in my skate game, I don't want to be running away from the authorities. I just want to be able to skate around looking for great spots to do tricks and make videos, with the added ability to get up the f'king stairs this time.

Unless they know something I don't it seems to me like they're misinterpreting the trailers. They seem to be mini-documentaries talking about events after the first game, the Skate character's rise to fame and sudden disappearance from the scene, and the way no skate zones and rules have changed in San Van. It doesn't seem to suggest that its gonna be set in a post apocalyptic skate nightmare city, it just hints at the Skate guy coming back soon, might be set in a new city where skateboarding is king. Or maybe you have to overthrow the oppressive 'man' in San Van and liberate skaters everywhere............oh god that would be terrible.

Hopefully this city will have a steady frame rate and allow me to play a character not concerned with being, like, totally kewl, or with fooling mom into thinking I've done my homework so I can totally go out skating.

I loved the first game, let's just hope the PS3 version isn't broken like the last one: the framerate was the worst I've seen on a game this side of GTA4.

Ach ,just give us more, EA. The first game was utterly unbelieveable. I was in shock first time playing it...
