Siren: Blood Curse to get Blu-ray release News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

4 August, 2008

Sony has decided to bundle all 12 episodes of Siren: Blood Curse onto Blu-ray disc for release this autumn.

The game's already up for grabs from the PlayStation Store, of course, but it's rather a meaty download and there will be bonus bits and bobs to make the boxed copy more alluring.

We're waiting for Sony to answer our cost-related questions. The PSN release costs GBP 20 for all 12 episodes.

Which made Siren: Blood Curse an enticing deal, one we enjoyed about as much as a zombie relishes brains in a bap.

Blood Curse takes place in a spooky Japanese seaside village. Nosey American reporters decide to check the place out and soon find themselves up to their lenses in an ancient curse which turns the inhabitants into zombies.

Bah! Any chance of getting those extras as a download?

I'm a sucker for extras, but I don't think I'll buy the game again for that... Unless the extras are really good... ;P

Nice that the game is coming on a disc (which for once is justified as being Blu-ray since the entire game is over 9 GB in size) but I doubt PS3 users will be entirely free of HDD installs as there's nothing to say that each of the four episodes won't require its own 2-2.5 GB install. Still for 40 GB HDD PS3 owners, it's obviously by far the better option.

I prefer run from HDD games anyway, sometimes when you can't decide what to put on, its great just to flick through the list and slap on something thats there.

"Blood Curse takes place in a spooky Japanese seaside village during the 1970s."

Was thinking to myself that this part must've gone over my head...but then i realised it's not in 70s at all. Why is there a mobile phone in the archive?

@Hobo - Siren is set in a village which apparently disappeared off the face of the earth in the 1970s and mysteriously reappeared in the present day hence the sudden interest in it by the media, etc. That's my understanding of the story as far as I've played

Those concerned about HD space...apart from the first chapter you can delete them after you've played them (don't worry, it keeps the save data and you can re-download them at a later date if needed) so it should't take up more than a couple of GB.

Me? I downloaded them all at once because I've got plenty of space and don't really care. Enjoying it so far, although Eden is taking up a lot of my time too...

PS, where's the Eden review?

@k109 - What did you expect... I bought GT5 Prologue on disc and it used 6 GB of my HDD space, more than the original download on the PS Store! Sure the difference is down to HD videos but you'd have thought they'd have played off the damn disc rather than needed to be installed (after all BD movies don't require installing!). I mean you cannot play the game WITHOUT the disc in the drive (unless you downloaded it obviously). Stupid really but it's typical of the lack of consistency on the PS3 when it comes to the game installations, etc.

RE: Eden review, I'm taking it that they're taking a bit more time to play it than the instant appearance of the IGN Eden review.

@Widge

Yeah, I'm not complaining like, but I was quite impressed how fast EG got their Siren & GW2 reviews up. No such luck this time. Oh well, I bought it anyway...just interested to see what they thought.

Completed it over the weekend. Good but the amount of repetitious levels grates a bit by the end.

Hmmm.

I almost bought this the other day, but discs never sell for RRP (see Warhawk), so I am inclined to wait now.

Too slow SCEE, already ordered the Asian version.

I always prefer a disc above the 'impulse buy' range, which for me is £10 and under. Firstly, so I can resell if it's shit or you are done with it; secondly because I like boxes and manuals :p

It was always going to have a bluray release eventually, everyone knew that.

Plus, two weeks would be too little a time to jump the gun and say "WE NEED A PHYSICAL RELEASE!!1!", especially when barely any of the major review sites have touched the game yet!

I've done it again, I bought Gundam Musou (Dynasty Warriors Gundam) only for it to eventually be released outside of japan, now i've received my Asian copy of Siren only for it to be released on BD over here.

Ohwell, atleast it'll have extra content.

Much better for me to get it on BD, as my broadband can barely handle downloading demos on the PS3. Let alone try to download a 10Gb download of Siren!

P.S. I like having manuals and boxes displaying on my shelf too :)
