SingStore price rumours dismissed

Sony says it's all still TBA.

Sony Computer Entertainment has dismissed reports that downloadable tracks for the PlayStation 3 instalment of SingStar will cost GBP 1.49 each.

The rumour first appeared on website palgn.com, which said that information about the GBP 1.49 price came from a forum member.

But according to a Sony spokesperson, "The SingStore prices on the site are wrong. We haven't announced anything on the prices yet.

That seems a bit high for tracks, if you can use those song tracks outside singstar on your mp3 player it might be ok.

The SingStore prices on the site are wrong! says Sony spokesperson, we need to put them through the Sony currency convertor first! The 1.49 is in US Dollars which makes it about GBP 5. And the European version is going to be released with a different spec, there will be no words on the screen and your mate has to hum the song for you to sing to as we won't be including the music or video.
Phil Harrison has told GamesIndustry.biz "It's all part of our strategy for Europe"

£1.50 seems a little high, but then again if i don't have to take all the dregs of the music world which are last minute add ons on some of the singstar editions then i will be happy.

You get a HD Music video along with the music tracks.
  • MadMirko #5 5 years ago

Can you burn the songs to CD or at least copy them to a PC?
  • Steroyd #6 5 years ago

Will probably be the same as Itunes.

I think people are missing the point somewhat. You can't really compare a singstar track to a normal music track.

If you are buying a singstar track you are paying for the game structure behind it , the pitch track and all that, plus the video as previously mentioned, so of course you will pay more than a normal mp3.

If listening to the track on the bus is a key factor for you, I'm not sure singstore is really where you should be buying your music.

lol @ keyboardmonkey - how very f@&king true dude!

that seems high as you currently pay £20 for a disc with 30 songs on it (except for that one disc which only had 20 tracks on it and still cost £20)

so if it was £1.49 a song that would mean you shelled out £44.70 for what you were only paying £20 before!

You're getting HD videos included though, making the purchase a bit more understandable.

@ the GameIndustry.Biz complaint about the article: It is a confirmed price structure coming out from Australia, from Sony Australia... Hardly a rumour.

Singstar Microtransactions as an underhanded way to make it cost more that we expect from the PS2 versions?

    I'd never have predicted that.

How's this for a prediction, every few months they stick about 30 of the previously available £1.50 a pop tracks on a disc and sell it as a collection for £20 (probably with a couple of exclusives to con the people who'd already bought the tracks indicidually to buy them again).

    @Mentalist(air)

"(probably with a couple of exclusives to con the people who'd already bought the tracks indicidually to buy them again)"

For anyone with even the tinyest amount of intelligence and sentient capability, how exactly would your hypothetical situation be a "con"?
