SingStar wireless mics next month News

PlayStation 3 PlayStation 2 News by Tom Bramwell

20 February, 2009

The long-awaited SingStar wireless microphones will be released on 20th March across the UK, Sony has announced.

A little while later in April, SingStar Pop Edition will follow, introducing voice-controlled menus for browsing, queuing up songs and even using the shop. Dangerous.

SingStar Pop Edition will also feature songs like The Killers' "Human", Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".

The wireless microphones have been in the making since before the release of the original SingStar PS3 68 million years ago, and Sony had to grit its teeth last year when Microsoft made it to market with the wireless Lips.

However, the platform holder reckons they will have been worth the wait, having consulted the SingStar community, 99 per cent of whom rated them as "excellent" or "very godo" according to a Sony survey.

Let's see. Saturday? Check. Jagerbombs? Check.

There's no word on how much they will cost when sold separately, or whether they will become the default bundled option for new SingStar discs, but we are told they are compatible with PS3 and PS2.

Obviously we'll be putting them through rigorous testing as soon as possible. The things we do for you, innit.

Here's the SingStar Pop Edition track listing:

Wow, those Microphones were released super fast!

Apart from that, that selection of songs is maxid between ones I love and ones I couldn't have on disc in my house in a billion years they're so awfully dire. Hopefully they'll do the usual and stick the good ones up on the Store.

Finallly I'll be able to get my SingStar fix! My girlfriend will be thrilled as well, especially given that 'Every little thing she does is magic' is one of her favourite songs (but except for a love for the Police she has a good taste in music).

I think they were faffing about with getting them over Bluetooth. They gave in and went with wifi, hence a dongle. The microphones work really well though.

Nothing wrong with The Police!

The musical kind that is, mixed reports by all accounts on the other lot.

I hope these songs go into SingStore too. Changing discs midsession isn't the way things should be these days - if you can download all of Burnout Paradise, why can't we have a disc of songs too?

"Nothing wrong with The Police!"

I was wondering how long it would take someone to bite. ;)

Been to a Police concert not too long ago and I enjoyed myself.

"why can't we have a disc of songs too?"

Good question. Might have something to do with the size of the videos? Though downloading a track would bring the same problem with it, unless SingStore tracks have lower quality video. Does anyone know?

If you've ever swapped discs on the PS3 version you'll notice you can still play tracks from your boot disc - they're being cached somewhere.

Bohemian on disc - let's hope that means a solus release for the track on the store too.
