You can. Press SELECT on the song browser window.

Gah, I thought that was the case. Sadly we only had one copy lying around the office (they're all at home, as you'd expect), so we had to go with what Ellie thought. I've corrected the text and appreciate the comments!

I need to review SingStar Vol. 3, but I just can't be arsed to start playing it. Not that I need to; each version is so identikit that I could write 90% of the review without even playing the game.

But anyway, is it just me or does the Girls vs. Boys version sound like the best? It would have been nice to have it on PS3, if only for HD videos of Sugababes and Girls Aloud ¬_¬

Also, I can't watch that video until I'm home from work, but I look forward to it :)

They could of course put the 30 songs from Vol 3 onto the SingStore and let us choose considering they sold us the next gen Singstar because of this feature

"Say You'll Be There" is ace IMHO, but even ignoring that - probably the Spice Girls song you wanted is already on another Singstar?

Are the ABBA songs really all that singable? I know Dancing Queen has a surprisingly difficult pitch range.

As you'd expect there's the usual handful of mediocre old tat, including Say What You Want by Texas and Breakfast at Tiffany's by those twats.

I thought it was only the lazy gits in these forums that were bothered about the disc swapping!? I cant believe Eurogamer actually mention it aswell. We have it lazy enough nowardays with wireless pads tunring on and off machines - can you really put down something for having to change a disc? Give me a break! And let have non of this next gen crap, I would rather swap a hundred singstar discs than clog up my hard ddrive with their tracks when you only play once in a blue drunken moon or get togethers etc. Is not even an issue that needs including in reviews as a negative.

Feargal Sharky sung Teenage Kicks. Fergie sang a song about chunks and pee'd herself on stage.

Also, Breakfast at Tiphany's is the greatest singalong song ever.

Really fun review, but can't help but feel you were a bit harsh on Singstar Disney, Ellie. I haven't played it but the tracklist looks great and some of the songs you didn't like I think are great and some of the ones you missed I would be glad to never hear again. Think that's just the way it is with Disney songs to be honest - aside from ten or so classics that everyone likes opinion is pretty divided over how good they are.

Of course I sit at work and listen to High School Musical soundtracks on my iPod so what do I know? ;-)

SingStar is still the best party game. It invites everyone in (with alcohol at this party, naturally) and doesnt shut people out like Rock Band or Guitar Hero.
Win win win.

When I saw Breakfast at Tiffany's on the tracklist shown on the shop's item page yesterday, I just decided right then I was getting Vol 3. Ellie's take on that song by The Clash was legendary, even after all that came before. :D

I had to Google that name...and am still confused as to what you're implying. He seems to be a film critic - are you saying he (and I) has bad taste? Fully admit I do just wondered why you compared me to him :-) On the other hand, I haven't said anyone say AICMFP for YEARS so +4 respect points for you!

Wireless microphones are due out early next year, so should be along in time for volume 4.

Sony ran a competition on the facebook and myspace singstar pages to trial the wireless mics (entries ended yesterday). They will work with a USB dongle, like the Buzz controllers, so should be compatible with both PS2 and PS3. Unfortunately, they will also take 2 AA batteries like the Buzz controllers.

@ jonsaan: No, it's not cack that you can hear the original vocal in the background - it gives you something to aim for when you don't know the songs well enough. This is surprisingly common: you'd be amazed at how many songs have whole sections in them that you would swear you've never heard before, so having the original singer being audible is essential in those bits.

@jonsaan

you can turn on an option that filters out the vocal when you are signing and brings it back when you stop

don't use it myself though, as I don't mind singing along

You can also change the level of your own voice vs the voice in the song. There are also some other effects and mixing options.

The disc swap thing, it's a licencing thing. If it hadn't been limited to disc, they would never have managed some artists, and it's the only area where they could still secure some artist exclusivity I'm sure (like they have an exclusive agreement for ABBA on disc)

Nice review, but I wish to put forward a few notes and corrections on your SingStar Disney write-up.

a) Beauty and the Beast and Kiss the Girl are neither mediocre nor rubbish. They are awesome, like all Alan Menken songs, with the exception of "Ever Ever After" from Enchanted, which sucked donkey balls.
b) The reason why "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" was included instead of "Hakuna Matata" is that "Hakuna Matata" is an incredibly bitty, incoherent and unsatisfying musical number, dominated by spoken word segments and instrumental bridges. In fact, it only contains one passage of singable music, the chorus, which is the only part of the song that anyone remembers, and therefore everyone assumes that the rest of the song is as good as that. It's not.
C) You are correct about "Son of Man".

That aside, carry on. ;)
