The videos will be high def as well don't forget so they'll take up a little more space than the PS2 songs.......

The song limit isn't about capacity, it's about cost. They carry a license fee which sony must pay, so if you put more than 30 on there, they'd have to charge more for the disk.
The interesting thing is going to be what the downloads cost, that's what we're all waiting for 1-2 quid will be fine. 5 plus wont be. |

So, have they improved the oft-discussed technical aspects that were slightly off with the PS2 versions? Like the slight lag on the vocals?

This is the way SingStar should be.. A perfect example of what was needed to make it neg-gen and dare I say it, a product that may well sell machines on its own. I read that and realised it was making me think about getting a PS3, if only because my g/f/ loves SingStar (and yeah ok, so do I after a few drinks).
Of course, I wouldn't need to if MS were to get their arses in gear and do something similar....... |

Surely its not just about what you can fit on disc but what it costs to put the songs there. If there were twice as many tracks on the initial disc the player would be paying for that up front. I love the concept of DLC (if its done right). I can pay only for what I want and not buy stuff I don't. So if the disc price is reasonable because its not full of songs I don't want, I'm happy :) Edit: I see others have already commented on this. Late as usual.

True, but does it really use the PS3 hardware? If this does become the PS3's best selling game, it makes a mockery of the PS3 actually needing all this expensive graphics technology.

From the look of things, it makes pub Karaokes mostly obsolete. Looks like a great party "game". |

Heh, not my kinda thing, but definitely a step in the right direction for PS3.
Its a darned good sales model too. Get people suckered in, and put up tracks slowly so that they keep buying them. Its like a MMOG My Space with vocals, sans the server costs. ...now... if they had virtual concerts using playstation eyes, singstar and real performers showing up in PS Home as special events... THAT would be freakin' awesome. |
