SingStar gets voice control, Trophies

Courtesy of new update released today.

Sony is releasing an update introducing voice control to SingStar PS3.

With update 3.01 you'll be able to pick tracks just by saying the song title into the microphone. You'll also be able to earn Trophies with titles like Keep it Cool, All Eyes on You and Super Singer Gold. And finally, the My SingStar Online profile page is getting a makeover.

The update is being released across PAL territories later today, and you can expect the SingStore and My SingStar Online to be unavailable for an estimated eight hours while they make the magic happen.

The voice control feature won't come into effect until 22nd April, though. From then on you'll be able to download it from SingStore Extras, or buy a copy of SingStar Pop Edition which will have the feature built-in. It's out next Friday and comes bundled with wireless mics, which is really quite very exciting obviously.

    @Coin-Op Let me guess, you've never played Singstar or Guitar Hero at a house party.

    That, or a USB microphone killed your family.

    Am I misunderstanding that or are they charging for the voice control unless you buy the latest disc version?

    Has there been some kind of press release for this because its not been mentioned anywhere on the Singstar facebook group (where they tend to announce these things) or on the Singstar Forums. As far as I know this trophy thing was only announced on some random french webshite.

    I'm hoping you can get the pop version without the mics. After all, we don't need wireless here especially, and i'm guessing they're is a delay anyway, similar to the lips wireless ones. My partner plays Sing Star, and i'd buy her the pop edition as a gift.

    Hopefully the online patches will be backwards compatible... Pretty dumb if they're not.

    Is this trophy patch covering all PS3 SingStars, or what? I have Queen, 2 and 3, and although I haven't played any in ages I might be tempted to break them out if I get trophies for them.

    Any news on what time the update will start to arrive?

    EDIT : According to latest information, the patch has been delayed till next week.

    The thing I hate about "after-market" trophies is when they aren't retroactive. E.g. trophies were added to Burnout Paradise, but the "trophy-worthy" achievements you already had passed were not taken as trophies so e.g. since I had smashed a bunch of fences and billboards already, the trophies for reaching those numbers lie dormant until I bite the bullet and start all over again.

    Is the same thing with this one?
