SimBin's Race On demo out now

PC exclusive is v-roomy.

Swedish developer SimBin has popped out a PC demo for Race On, offering up a couple of game modes for 618MB of your hard-disk space.

You can download the sampler from the SimBin website, which gives either a link to Steam or a file direct.

Race On arrives in full, exclusively for PC, on 13th November. The RACE 07 developer has recreated loads of cars and tracks, but the big draw will be jostling for position with a whopping 25 other drivers controlled by the computer.

Pop over to our freshly-updated Race On gallery for a look at the goods.

I tried this 3 days ago. It's nigh on identical to Race 07, GTR. They really do need to up their graphics engine and perhaps rewrite the graphics from scratch. For newcomers it might be okay but it seems like they've not moved on.

Don't get me wrong. the game is still great, handling is good, audio is superb also. Just wish you could get the best of both worlds by now, especially with more powerful hardware on the market.

I did not know this game was in the works, personally to me this looks stunning.

Of course I'm far more into the sim element and just the movement of those cars looks so believable, makes the Forza demo look like the pants it actually is (as far as claims of being the best sim racing game are concerned).

I agree there would be nothing wrong if they did up their graphics game but really how necessary is that... this looks far more 'realistic' to me than Forza or GT5. They are flashy as hell for sure but the graphics in this, mostly cos of the physics you can see at play in the movement of the cars, make this a more realistic looking game.. the graphics are hardly poor.

I'm generally on the side of the more softcore gamer these days, complex and time consuming games are less appealing to me when I have more fun playing Flight Control or Bookworm, however when it comes to my racers realism is what it's about.. I want to know that, in a simulation, I can be reasonably quick in what are the most challenging cars in the world to drive, screw the handholding and accessibility to all gamers of all ages in this area of gaming for me! :p This is the closest thing many of us can come to knowing roughly what it's like being the Fernando Alonsos of this world

Rant over, until we meet again.

I agree with citizenHUNTER, I still play GTR2 and GT Legends an awful lot (for whatever reason, the RACE series never clicked with me), it may not look incredible in a conventional sense, but seconds in to it and you are completely immersed. The physics draw you in and you rarely notice anything that looks out of place (apart from when you crash sometimes), unlike most console racers.

    looks fucking sweet

    sims FTW

game logo is beyond dire though, they need a new graphic designer at simbin.
Looks like the logo from a sinclair user advert circa '88

The demo plays great but the graphics, as expected from a SimBin game, are underwhelming. Shouldn't the PC have its own equivalent of Gran Turismo/Forza Motorsport by now, you know, a game that looks as good as it plays?

I feel that Simbin should have released the new cars and circuits as an add-on rather than releasing this as a whole new game. I just don't feel that they have moved the series on enough to justify a full price purchase.

Yes, the cars handle and feel fantastic to drive, but they did in Race 07 and GTR Evo, thats not the problem. Its still the same, imo quite clunky menu system, same dull voiceovers when you have an accident ( you've got a suspension problem) and that menu music is appalling.

The game is not broken because, once you are behind the wheel you are immersed and it's great. But for me, not enough has been done to move this along with todays PC tech.

if i am correct if you own Race 07 you can buy this as an expansion pack rather than a full product.

But yes graphics look a bit meh but the gameplay is brilliant. loving my g25 wheel :)

Personally i prefer it this way around... better than Gran Tourismo - where the graphics are excellent but the game is severly lacking (cars sliding around walls.. wtf?)

Being a Mac user, I miss all the PC sims and reading posts from Simbin fans always made me feel I was really missing out. So when Race Pro came out, I was really pleased to find out what I'd been missing all this time, that was so much better than Forza, GT5, PGR etc. And I have to say I was not impressed. It's not that it's a bad game - I quite like it - but it is a bit boring, and quite frankly, it doesn't feel any more realistic than the games I've mentioned above. And that's using the MS wheel. I have a Mini Cooper, and other games get the feel of the car much better. While some cars feel like driving on ice.

But still, I reckon the more good race games the better, and if I had a PC set up I would get this. But please don't boast how much better it is than console games.

They had to make concessions with RACE Pro being on a console, its very buggy and the physics, while better than Forza, GT etc are good, they are not up to the level of the games on the PC. You can't compare it to SIMBIN's other PC games: GTR 2 and GT Legends primarily, also RACE 07 and GTR Evo. Then you've got rFactor by ISI which uses the same Gmotor engine, Live For Speed and more.

Also the game isn't optimized well for the Microsoft wheel, it's buggy and doesn't utilize full force feedback. The official forums are full of problems. It's nothing like driving on the PC using a Logitech DFGT or G25. Some of the PC mods for the above games are amazing.
