I trust this works flawlessly on the 60GB PS3? I hope so, because I need this game more than I need oxygen to breathe. I'm still pissed off Silent Hill 2 has B/C flaws on my PS3.

What's the 'optimistic price tag' you're talking about? It's up for pre-order online at £18 in several shops, most others seem to be asking about £20.

They really shouldn't release these PSP games on the PS2. I understand the market is there, but it dilutes the experience.

I enjoyed Origins on the PSP, but it was so much less interesting than SH 1-4 on the big console. Also, the game's structure was really, really repetitive. Streets-building-streets-building. I remember SH2 was similar, but less noticeably so. This one is extremely by-the-numbers.

In the press materials, it's 29.99 GBP - if retail is discounting it, then good on 'em.

After four, well now five games (including this one), all following the same fomula and as one of the much touted "die-hard fans" even I think SH it is in need of a much needed re-vamp. I've not read anything about Homecoming that seems like its gonna buck the trend either...

Maybe Konami could take a leaf out of Capcom's book - or at the very least look at newer survival horrors being developed like Alone in the Dark. I guess we'll see.

@ ZuluHero:
Spot on mate. I couldn't agree with you more.

I own the first 4 games and have obtained every ending over the years but that don't mean I want to buy an (almost) identical 5th/6th game. I will probably buy this as I played through most of it on my friend's PSP and want to see how the story pans out. But I shall certainly wait for reviews before I decide whether or not to buy Homecoming. Fingers Crossed though.

'Wait for Homecoming'

:D

I wonder if Kristan is actually a denizen of some weird parallel universe where Homecoming doesn't look like a fetid bag of cack.

I totally agree.

Played the PSP version, and it just isn't the same as 1,2,3 or even 4. Something just doesn't feel right about a Silent Hill game that hasn't been made by crazy Japanese folk.

The collective (buffy games) doesn't fill me with confidence i'll admit... The video's ive seen so far are ok, albeit a little bit too generic silent hill (looks without charm?) if that makes sense?

The collective only did the first Buffy game, the second was by Eurocom. At the time, the Xbox Buffy game was pretty close to state of the art - I can remember I was very impressed with it. I have high hopes for Homecoming.

Likewise, my feeling about The Collective is fairly positive. They did the Xbox Indiana Jones game, which I was very fond of at the time.

"Not Team Silent = not Silent Hill"

The Room, oh wait its Silent Hill 4, no wait its The Room, no wait!

Team Silent are the ones who wrecked the series by not changing things up, no one else, which is a shame as all the games they did have great presentation (The Room premise is excellent for those yet to try it).

Outsiders being hired to make a by the numbers prequel isn't going to allow much room to innovate, PSP version is still decent, but I just hate the combat in Silent Hill, it just doesn't need fighting anyhow, get rid of 95% of the fighting, only include a few freaky looking creatures to scare you witless but focus on atmosphere, puzzles, exploration, my two cent anyhow...

The Collective have not made a decent games in ages (the buffy game was good apart from that fucking "dreamers" level)

I hope SH: O is B/C as I will probably still get it

It's a bit silly really Eurogamer reviews don't state if there's any B/C problems with the PAL PS3s. Come on Eurogamer, sort it out!

I know this game is "average" but i do feel like i've "missed out" a tad by not playing a single Silent Hill since the original one on the ps1..

@ smelly and feanor, really, not even Silent Hill 2?!?

Should be dead cheap now, get it sorted, well good even with the somewhat clunky mechanics, its my favourite Silent Hill game by a country mile.
