Signs point to Saints Row 2 News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

9 April, 2007

THQ has told Eurogamer that a sequel for Saints Row is yet to be confirmed or announced.

It was speaking in the aftermath of a press release from one of the publisher's advertising partners, which seemingly pointed to the existence of a follow-up game.

The press release explained that a new advertising agreement covered various games including titles "based on the Juiced, MX vs ATV, Stuntman and Saints Row franchises".

While a new game or expansion to the gang-banging GTA rival wouldn't be outrageously surprising, this would be the first we've heard about it.

Saints Row launched last year on Xbox 360 to a surprising round of applause. It's a difficult game to talk about without mentioning Grand Theft Auto, as you create a character who will eventually control the hood and be donned the ultimate crime lord - doing all the things you would expect in a gang infested world. Still, it turned out to be pretty good and is due to appear on PlayStation 3 in July.

You can find our Saints Row review elsewhere on the site.

Yes, I rather enjoyed it. Except for the final "mission", which I hadn't saved before undertaking. What an annoying ending to an otherwise good game.

I quite liked it, but missions where you had to protect idiot NPCs ruined it for me.

No details on the gameplay, but that's only because they haven't played GTA IV yet.

Had it run at a decent frame rate I'd still be playing it now I suspect. Anyone who hasn't seen it before should really check out "Buggy Saints Row the Musical". High-larious.

(Little bit of background; Cabel Sasser writes awesome mac apps and plays a lot of games in his spare time - he checked saints row out while waiting for his Wii to arrive and decided to make a collage of video footage he captured)

Hopefully the PS3 conversion of Saints Row is ok. Should keep the PS3 early adopters somewhat happy until GTA IV comes.

"The agreement grants Double Fusion advertising representation across certain platforms for several of THQ's highly anticipated titles," the press release stated. "The roster includes games based on the Juiced, MX vs ATV, Stuntman and Saints Row franchises."

Did anyone else take that to read: "PS3 Saint's Row to include Double Fusion enabled advertising"?...Nothing newsworthy, except maybe if it streams in. The other three properties mentioned are franchises, but I think the "certain platforms" utterance is the most telling.
While I've little doubt that a new Saint's Row is in development, for the noise generated by the first, I don't think it'll be unveiled/announced yet.

we actually enjoyed saints row. and this saints row 2 rumor is awesome if it turns out to be true. however we were wondering if double fusion was only referring to the game's version. is it possible that what he meant by "franchises" is the xbox 360 and ps3 version?

Crackdown is the BEST type of game in that particular genre, in my opinion.

I rank the games like this:

#1: Crackdown
#2: Grand Theft Auto
#3: Saints Row

Crackdown is set in the future, and you are a police member who is genetically altered so you can jump super high, and pick up cars, and do AWESOME things!

Crackdown lets you build up your levels, almost like an RPG. So, your Strength grows in Crackdown, and so do your Driving skills, and Agility, and things like that. The graphics in Crackdown are absolutely amazing!

The Co-Op mode for Crackdown is amazing. It is just like playing Grand Theft Auto, but online with a friend. You can drive, while the other person is on top of the vehicle shooting! AWESOME!

It's cool, because the one and only complaint a few of the reviews said about Crackdown has now been 100% fixed through a download. The complaint talked about how when you previously killed a boss, the Police would take control of the city, and no enemies were found in those parts of the city anymore. With the download, the enemies come out at night, even after you kill the bosses, and you can fight again in those parts of town close to where the game starts, just to build up your levels.

All I can say is Crackdown is soooooooo FUN!!!

Saints Row 2 may be released later, but for now, my mind is 100% on Crackdown!!!
