Sierra doing Mummy game News

PlayStation 2 DS Wii
News by Robert Purchese

8 May, 2008

Sierra Entertainment plans to release the official Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor game a week after the film, on 8th August.

Eurocom is making it for Wii and PS2, while the wonderfully named A2M is handling the DS version.

The game will be third-person and follow events in the film, so you will be floppy-haired Rick O'Connell (Fraser) and his son Alex (Luke Ford), and clamber through ancient Chinese catacombs and over snowy mountains to defeat the nasty Dragon Emperor (Jet Li).

We're promised lots of shooting and fist fights, and a suitably adept combat system and arsenal to go with it. There will be some hieroglyphic hijinx going on as well.

"The Mummy is one of the most distinctive and expansive franchises in Universal's portfolio, and there is inherent gameplay in the property," said Bill Kispert, boss of Universal Pictures, wrapped in bandages.

"The new film amps up the action, introduces a ruthless new villain and takes our heroes to incredible new locations. We are thrilled to bring all these attributes to life in this game."

First the movie, they had to go and ruin the franchise with this sequel which has nothing to DO with mummies!! Second Rachel Weisz is not starring and was replaced with a mediocre actress and third, those screens look like shit

There, out of my system!

The first movie was bearable...
The second should be destroyed...What a ridiculous waste of celluloid...
I was unfortunate enough to have seen it at the theater and I remember people leaving when the Jet-engine blimp came along...

1) Like they didn't ruin the franchise with the first sequel or The Scorpion King - I bet this will be a lot better than either.

2) There is no question here that Rachel Weisz is very, very hot but suggesting that Maria Bello is in any way a 'mediocre actress' by comparison is just loopy.

3) You are correct. Compared to, say, the most recent Tomb Raider games on PS2 this does not look good. It might look better running, I suppose...

Rachel Weiz was offered the role, but turned it down. She gave the official reasoning that she didn't want to spend months in China as she has a young child, but apparently it was actually because her character was going to have a 21 year old son (it's set some time after the second film) - she felt she was a bit young (36) to play a mother with a son of that age.

Sierra + film licence = 3 - 5 out of 10.

I didn't even know there was going to be another film. The first was dumb, ashamed fun, the second was a carbon fucking copy of the first. Not expecting much from the movie, and the game in particular.

I actually have high hopes for the Eurocom developed title.

Remember that one of their teams did the excellent Sphinx & the Cursed Mummy game!

Heh, that is the most horrible studio name ever. Appears A2M is short for "Artificial Mind and Movement"... not, uh, the other thing.

Damn, I hoped it was a sequel to the classic amstrad cpc game "oh mummy". Years later and its theme tune is still stuck in my head though.
