Shivering Isles 360 gets new achievements
Plus graphics update.
Bethesda confirmed at a recent press event that Shivering Isles will be one of the first games to make use of the extra 250 achievement points available for downloadable expansion packs.
The Oblivion add-on for 360 will also feature new shader technology that should bring the game up to the graphical standard of the PS3 copy, adding to recent comments from Bethesda spokesperson Pete Hines that the two versions will look virtually identical.
Shivering Isles is the first proper expansion pack for the The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It takes place in the wacky realm of Daedra Prince Sheogorath, who looks to you to become his champion and save his world from invasion. You'll be tasked to undergo lots of weird and wonderful quests, picking up new items, spells, and crafting new armour.
It's due for release in spring, via Xbox Live for console owners, and in retail stores for PC pests.
Oblivion is a launch title for PS3 when the console arrives in Europe on 23rd March. There's no word on the inclusion of the expansion pack, though previous downloadable update, The Knights of the Nine, will be included.

I wish EG had given an exact release date though. It's killing me having to wait for what looks like an utterly awesome expansion pack. Early March would be preferable to, say, 23rd please, Bethesda!

It would also be nice if PC owners could download this same graphics optimisation...

It.s a good game bordering on great - but it does get very tedious after a while.

lol
Also, I think there isn't a firm date yet, so EG only have "spring" to go on.

Since they can't seem to code for the engine they licensed for the game, probably not.

As said, having played it on the 360 (on HD set) then buying it on my PC, the difference is striking. Especially if you install the great mods out there.
Take a look at this article if you don't believe me. Install them and tell me it doesnt look far better!

There is one thing making insane coments and not backing them up, but it's just as bad to dismiss somone else without backing up your view!

I think it might have been the "billions" reference that was the source of mirth. Unless you can back that up too I guess
I personally play Oblivion on a 360, because I gave up on PC gaming ages back. But I would agree that the PC version can look better on a good system. In fact Oblivion is one of the games that makes me wish I did still have a PC that was up to the do, as the mod scene is great also.

I also had have the PC version and the 360 version - but I prefer playing the 360. It doesnt look quite as good sure, but its certainly better from an armchair with a wireless joypad on a 32" HD than cramped in front of a monitor with a mouse and a billion keyboard shortcuts. Oh, and the 360 version hasnt crashed on me yet either.....

Yes

360 version is same as PC on High settings... PC can go a bit higher but not much so the "normal" version of Oblivion on PC looks virtually the same as 360 version. Mods are a different thing....

Glad to see the updated shader will work on X360 on the whole game and not just the downloaded expansion pack. PS3 should have a year worth of advantage ahead of X360 but seem that we are still largely on same level.
PS3 need to have more killer AAA titles NOT available to X360 or PC, so Oblivion will not be the reason to splash out on PS3, but good for those who haven't got the game on PC or X360.

Can anyone point to more info on the graphical improvements???

They are not that big... just textures in the distance are better. Stare at some PS3 screenies and you might see the difference. Youc an see it best in wide open landscapes ofc.

Right, OK. That sort of thing never bothered me that much anyway but maybe points to them tuning the engine somewhat and giving a better draw distance too?
