Shivering Isles 360 box coming

Bundled with Knights of Nine.

Bethesda has announced it will be offering those of you without Live access a chance to play the Oblivion expansion Shivering Isles.

Beginning sometime in October, it will be shipping a boxed copy of the game which will also include the downloadable add-on Knights of the Nine. The suggested price is USD 29.99.

Those of you with a 360 will also get a Game of the Year edition in the same month, containing the original campaign as well as Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. The cost is reckoned at USD 59.99.

Unfortunately, for now, Bethesda has no plans to release any of the other downloadable content on disc (horse armour, Frostcrag Spire, Mehrune's Razor, etc).

PS3 owners, on the other hand, won't have so many options. A Game of the Year edition is planned to follow sometime after the 360 and PC versions, but there's no movement on a Shivering Isles disc just yet. There's also no word on when the downloadable content will make it to the PlayStation Store.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a free-roaming RPG that cost British industry lots of sick-days. Pop over to our Oblivion and Shivering Isles reviews to catch up on the action.

Just go and buy Morrowind GOTY edition, far better game.

You can pre-order the 360 Oblivion Game of the Year Edition, which includes the main game (obviously) plus the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansion packs, for £29.99 from Play.com, £5 cheaper than everywhere else I've seen. It's definitely worth getting if you've yet to play the game as Oblivion is still the best game on the Xbox 360, although BioShock comes close.

360 cashmilking lol, no wait, krylol?
  • peteb #4 5 years ago

cool, i was gonna download Shivering Isles, but thought it was a bit annoying having to buy two 2100 points cards just to pay the 2400 points for it. That, and the hard drive space is limited. Will be picking this up now!

    @Darren

No, you can't. It's now 'currently not available'. Has been since yesterday when I went to preorder it :(

i was going to buy that version when i still had my 20 gig HDD,but since then i have got my 120gig HDD,and space is no longer an issue i will just keep the packs i have already downloaded

I have not played this yet. I don't particulary like RPG's other than Zelda so i am wondering whether i should get this (I have seen it for £16.99). anyone out there help me?
  • BastoJ #9 5 years ago

It is a really good game, I traded it in a while ago so I might get the GOTY version

Basto. can you elaborate? I dont want or need 200 hours of gameplay. 20 is more than enough for me!!! Is it worth me getting this if i am not prepared to give over my life. I mean i am still not quite finished with Bioshock, after some fairly solid play by my standards, and with so many good games on the horizon, should i bother with Oblivion?

I would love to play SI but I simply won't buy something that big as DC. I want something like that on disc so this is perfect for me.

....when it goes down in price.

You won't be able to finish it in 20 hours, but you sure can have fun with it for 20 hours. It's not a perfect game by any means, but it's definitely worth trying out.

I got bored after maybe 30 hours when I played it first, then bought the SI expansion a few weeks ago and have since then played it for another 30 hours or so. Stopped again for now, mainly because my character has become a bit too powerful, but I am pretty sure I'll finish it one of these days.

I thought this couldn't be done? Hmmm...

Nice one UncleLou. I am having a real problem picking my games right now. I prefer droughts!

Hope they reduce the XBL price now seeing as the SI expansion is effectively free when you purchase the game, Oblivion is one of my few 1000 pointer games and I wouldn't mind pushing it up to 1250, but 2100 M$ Points is a bit pricey IMHO.

I will probably buy the Oblivion pack with all the add-ons. I played the vanilla game on the PC over a year ago and loved, I can see myself playing through it (and the new content) again.

Also, achievement points. Oblivion is ridiculously easy for them and I'm a shameless points whore :(

"Also, achievement points. Oblivion is ridiculously easy for them and I'm a shameless points whore"

I wouldn't say that they are easy to get as you need to put in a lot of hours to get them e.g. you only get 10G for moving up a rank in each guild.

How will the expansion work? Will you have to swap discs when enter the Shivering Isles? I can't imagine that it will store the details on the hard drive otherwise you could just borrow or rent the expansion disc instead of buying it. It will be a bit annoying having to swap the disc though.
  • Calgon #19 4 years ago

Hmmm maybe if theyve done the game of the year edition properly, ie it should load faster than the PS3 version and have atleast equal drawdistance(PC especially and 360 should now have the improvements they did to the PS3 version, perhaps even more), they probably have too(didnt they do lots to the morrowind GOTY?).

Im not sure I will have the time for a game as big as this when do pick up a 360, theres so many games I want to play now.

Oceadge well how often do you think youd be swapping the disk, does the expansion require you to go back to Oblivion at all during its campaign?
  • Gavvie #21 4 years ago

Not that I know of, but I can see the point he's trying to make. Swapping discs isn't that brill.

I imagine it'll be like the Halo 2 Multiplayer Pack, where the content's on the disc, but you have to download it to the hard drive to play it.
