Activision details next Spider-Man

Shattered Dimensions due in September.

Activision has used a press release to reveal the first details of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, the web-slinger's next game, due for release in September this year. It's being developer by Quebec City studio Beenox.

As the title suggests, Shattered Dimensions will take players to four different Spider-Man universes from the complex continuity of Marvel comics. The first two of these to be revealed are The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man Noir.

You'll play as a different version of the wall-crawler in each universe, with gameplay changing to suit. The Amazing Spider-Man will present the hero in the classic form created by Steve Ditko, with the focus on "innovative web combat".

Spider-Man Noir will take players to a black-and-white, 1930s setting that takes its cue from last year's Marvel Noir comics and features a stealthier style of play. It's "a cunning and covert depiction of Spider-Man, who utilises shadows to perform stealth takedowns," it says here.

Comics author Dan Slott has written the storyline, which has Spider-Man pursuing pieces of the Tablet of Order and Chaos, which has been broken and scattered across the parallel universes. Villains include Kraven and, in Noir, Hammerhead.

Check out the new Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions trailer to see how the game is taking shape.

    Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can!

    ... Except in the latest versions.

    There have been some good titles in the past though, so let's hope this is a return to form.

    So how much will the DLC cost?

    Not that I am really interested in any Activision game again, ever.

    I just hope this is good, the complete shit they've been serving up recently has been disgraceful.

    Give us Ultimate Spider-Man 2 damn it!

    I'd like to see Ultimate Spiderman 2 also, the first one was awesome, had a few issues, but for the most part looked great and felt epic sometimes!

    Hmm I wonder what the next press release will state...

    'Players can once again swing around the same map of Manhattan they've come to know and love (As seen in Spiderman 1, 2, 3 and Prototype). Seemingly devoid of life and character we feel that we've really encapsulated what it's like to swing around Manhattan as an actual Spiderman so we're really excited about its release this year!'

    Sounds interesting....but the only thing that could get me buying an Activision game now is G.U.N 2. No thanks Bobby.

    Interested to see what the other two Spider-Man "universes" will be. Gritty realistic Ultimate-verse? House of M? Not THAT familiar with my Spidey canon.

    @Britesparc

    I think Ultimate is pretty much a given. As a stab in the dark, maybe they will consider the film in its own seperate universe and use that as its forth.

    Given how it was the most popular of the 2099 line of comics, Spidey 2099 may seem a reasonable candidate, since they confirmed it's a time-shifted alternate universe in eXiles.

    i quite enjoyed web of shadows. even more so when i traded to game for £15 when i only paid £9 :)
  • Nithron #12 2 years ago

    Would be hilarious if they include the Zombieverse. They blatantly wont though.

    Damn you, Activision, you are getting more of my money. First Transformer and now this, both looking awesome.

    This will be worth a look just for the Spiderman Noir parts, which only hit the comic scene recently. Bring it on.

    @SpaceMonkey77: Noooo, you must resist!

    @Chupakun

    I know, I'm being suck into the Kotick black whole. Lol.

    Spiderman Noir is rad, though, and its rare that we get Spiderman from another universe perspective, in a game. Even if I only rent it, it will be checkd out.

    Crap - are Activision making Transformers? Might have to avoid it until I find it 2nd hand somewhere.
  • Dr.Mott #17 2 years ago

    Please please please please please use the swinging mechanic from the Spiderman 2 game. That was brilliant.

    Am I the only one who thinks this sounds bloody awful?
    A spiderman stealth game sounds good? Really?

    I'll stick with spiderman 2 thanks

    Well it can't possibly be worse than the PS2 version of spiderman 3 which imo is the worst superhero game of all time.Spiderman noir sounds almost too gay for words.The licence should be given to the dudes who made arkham asylum.They might do it justice.
