SEGA Superstars Tennis a week early News

PlayStation 2 DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

29 February, 2008

SEGA has confirmed that SEGA Superstars Tennis will arrive a week earlier than expected on 20th March.

Its unpredictable surge to the retail net leaves us flat-footed but happy because we quite liked what we saw of it in January.

Superstars Tennis has all the familiar characters in it from the SEGA catalogue, then, like Sonic, and, er, the others.

You get to smash balls at your opponents on themed courts, embark on mini-games, and generally do all sorts of things Virtua Tennis has done so well for the publisher for years and years.

Even the Achievements on 360 are named after SEGA games.

Pop over to our SEGA Superstars Tennis preview to find out more.

How do you know about the achievements? Achieve360Points don't have them listed yet, and they're usually pretty quick with these things.

The minigames look like the deal clincher. Annoying they haven't shown off what you do in the Outrun minigame in any of the playthrough's I've seen yet, but the fact it's there is awesome. Can't wait for this one.

I wanted the Wii version..but it's pointless to get that when i've heard the motion controls ain't good! You might as well go for the 360 version with superb, bold graphics...online play...and Achievements!

Ws going to get the Wii version too, but its the 360 now for me.

Might pick up the DS version too - I'd love a good tennis game for my DS.

@Arcadia

So because it's a cartoony game, it can't have decent tennis gameplay?

Mario Golf says you're wrong:)

@ jonsaan.

Quote the part where I said "This can't have decent tennis gameplay because it's a cartoony game". ¬_¬

Virtua Tennis does have "decent tennis gameplay". This probably will too.

Where does it say that the motion controls aren't good on Wii? I suspect it's from an old, old build. We're really happy how it's turned out - but the controls weren't fully sorted till late in the day. Wait till you see final reviews :)

As for lobs and drop shots, you should be able to use these to good measure, we've been tweaking the AI to use them and deal with them at any rate. Although it's a more cartoony game in style, there's still the VT control and game system depth - in fact if anything it's a little deeper and you have better control over the ball now.

@ Duckula.

It is? We've had NiGHTS: JoD, Ghost Squad, the PSU expansion, Universe At War, The Club, Mario & Sonic, Sonic Riders and Bleach recently, with the 360 version of UAW, Condemned 2, Viking: BfA and SST coming in March. Not great games, but there's quite a few of them. Unless you meant non-sequels, which still leaves 5, to my knowledge.

@ tardo.

I completely misunderstood. In that case, I know exactly how Duckula feels. :(

I'm guessing that it's rare to be looking forward to a Sega game.
I'm still disappointed from NiGHTS to have a big build up of hope again.
Not sure if I'll get this game, but possibly. But will have to decide whether the 360 or Wii version will be best.
