SEGA pours more Bleach onto DS

The 3rd Phantom here next year.

SEGA has announced another adaptation of Japanese anime Bleach for DS, although strategy RPG will be the genre, rather than fighting, and the author and creator of the cartoon, Tite Kubo, will supervise.

He'll help create Bleach: The 3rd Phantom's entirely new and exclusive storyline, which has both familiar and never-before-seen characters you can chat to using an interactive dialogue system.

Experience from fighting - that old RPG staple - also features, as do upgradable abilities and powers. Bleach: The 3rd Phantom requires a mixture of these to overcome different situations. The main characters the Soul Reaper twins, for example, take different approaches but can combine to unleash ultimate moves.

You'll explore an isometric world but fight in 2D. And two friends can fight each other using Wi-Fi.

Bleach: The 3rd Phantom is due for release early next year. Head over to our gallery for the first screenshots.

Cool. A friend introduced me to the anime series a few months ago and it's pretty good, so I'm looking forward to this :)

I wish they'd make a PS3 title for this, like the Naruto game, but with less bullshit collecting and more moves.

I played the Japanese version of this, and I can't say I was too enamoured. The presentation was top notch, with fully voiced sequences, but the gameplay is slow and clunky, which is saying something for an SRPG.

SRPG'S are to DS, what fps's are to 360 and mini game comps and shovelware are to Wii...

at first it was cool, but it seems like every other turns into a SRPG...

i like 'em, but theres only so many you can play before you crave something more immediate...

The idea sounds cool. But English voice acting would be a deal breaker for me.
