SEGA dates Bayonetta for Europe

Due here moments into the New Year.

SEGA has decided that 8th January is a good time to release third-person action romp Bayonetta in Europe. The US will play the game a few days earlier from 5th January.

That's on both PS3 and Xbox 360, by the way.

Developed by Platinum Games (MadWorld, God Hand, Okami), Bayonetta follows the eponymous witch Bayonetta as she battles against the angels, shooting guns from her feet and using her hair to undress herself, conjuring outrageous special powers. It's absolutely bonkers.

Bayonetta launched in Japan yesterday and picked up full marks from regional super-magazine Famitsu on Xbox 360, while the PS3 version managed 38/40.

Eurogamer's Digital Foundry blog examined the demo differences between the two platforms earlier this month.

Bayonetta is another of the top titles filling the halls of the Eurogamer Expo 2009 this week. The London show, at Old Billingsgate, gets underway at 11am today. The Expo runs tomorrow as well and finishes each night at 8pm.

Tickets are technically sold out, but we will try and squeeze a few more in from 1pm. Tickets are £6.

    Looking forward to Bayonetta, my kind of madness in a third person action game. The tourture attacks are mental but awesome.

    Was actually not to interested in this one but after playing the demo I've changed my tune. Looking forward to it.

    Been playing the 360 version a bit today at a friends house. Rather nice, looks great... and plays smooth.

    @Dizzy if you had said 'ps3' i wouldn't be thinking HAXZ! :)

    Sooooooo tempted to import it but the cheapest I've seen is £50 without shipping :(

    Why HAXZ on PS3?

    Playing it on Japanese 360 (not region free BTW). I have not played the PS3 version, so I can`t comment if it really is a bit weak compared to 360.

    I keep hearing about Bayonetta; all I can surmise is that its main purpose is to give teenage boys something to masturbate to while they are away from the internet.

    It's actually a really good game from what I played of it. Smooth, fast and the controls are spot on. It's basically Devil May Cry with optional hand shandy for anyone who does that kind of thing.

    /wonders why right hand is shaped like a claw

    I'm really unsure as to how well releasing games in January is going to work out for publishers. I'm gonna be broke then, so I'll still have to wait for it to drop to £20. So what with it being a Sega game, no doubt I'll be picking it up for under £20 in late January!!

    would have been HAXZ on PS3 because it neither looks great nor runs smooth, obv

    @General_Zod

    That's very hard to do. While her clothes do come off quite frequently during heavy combos, you do need both hands to work the joypad.

    Actually, now that I think about it, there is an easy mode where you only have to hammer one attack button. Hmm....

    hmm, same time as darksiders.

    i have some hope for darksides, so it could be an interesting match up

    The PS3 version looks awful... i usually didn't notice differences in cross platform games, but in Bayonetta it's painfully obvious, as much as i love Platinum, i couldn't possibly support such a shoddy looking port...

    I'm surprised at the lack of excitement among the eurogamer forumites for this one. Come on guys, it's from the people who gave us Okami and Viewtiful Joe, it MUST be awesome.

    @fender master I don't think the ps3 version looks that bad neither does Famitsue who scored it a 38/40
    If the 360 version didn't exist then you would be raving over this.
