Section 8 delayed by a week in UK

Multiplayer shooter has minor jetpack.

SouthPeak has told Eurogamer that multiplayer shooter Section 8 has suffered a minor delay in the UK.

"The game is now being released on 11th September not 4th September due to a small delay in the manufacturing process," a spokesperson for SouthPeak told us. Do hope no one fell into DVD-pressing machine.

Section 8 - for PC and Xbox 360 - has fighters drop into maps from a great height, allowing maps to be surveyed and tactics worked out on entry. Once landed, jetpacks can be used to hop around the level.

Our detailed hands-on impressions can tell you much more.

Demo up on XBL now, btw.

I played the demo for 5 minutes, I think I must've been doing something wrong as my character was walking at a pace of around 3 inches per hour :/ Frustrated the hell out of me, so I wont be getting this.

True about the horrendous timing - you can imagine the development team cringing at the thought of going up against another Halo and MW2 not being to far off - certainly within the same 'wallet-window' for me.

I presume the publishers know what they are doing? ;)

Yea I'd never heard of this till I seen the demo, some interesting ideas, such as the orbital drop respawn, and the calling in of ordinance. But the movement is weird - and with no tutorial, I had no idea what most of the weapons and gadgets were capable of, I'll keep an eye on it, but I'm not expecting much. Seems like a few nice ideas poorly executed.

As a science fiction Battlefield I'm pretty impressed with it, combines elements from a lot of PC games and squashes them all together.

I'm very interested in seeing how well the PC hosting a 32 player Xbox Live game works out too. Considering who is publishing this I'm bloody surprised it's so good.

Smashing an enemy into the dirt when you're wearing heavy armour is fun.

Well, I downloaded last night whilst reminding myself why I said I really shouldn't start playing Trials HD at midnight... :)

    Will check it out later.

Played the demo last night, found it weird to push the analog stick in to run but aside from that I really enjoyed it - 32 players over Live should be fun!

Think i will give this another go later. Seems i didnt understand the controls as i never did run or use a jetback. I was just lumbering around at incredibly slow pace until i found an enemy then i got killed. Turned off the demo and went back to playing Batman AA.

It's rubbish. Besides, it hasn't a chance with that new Halo game and COD 4: MW2 on the horizon.
  • matrim83 #11 2 years ago

I enjoyed it. But I have a feeling that not many people will pick this up so the MP will die on its ass. It will end up another QW, a decent MP that no one plays.

And the SP campaign from all accounts seems half assed. So unless this sells and gathers a following, no dice.

I was hoping for a new Planetside when I tried the PC demo. I didn’t think it was bad but didn’t think it was great either. Kind of just there!

I think Halo ODST, MW2 and Borderlands covers my FPS needs for the rest of the year. All of those GOTY candidates too.

    Orbital drop, nice
    Rest of demo, bloody awful

The fact I enjoyed the Wet demo a lot more than this speaks volumes. To me anyhow.

Releasing a new IP which isn't going to be AAA anytime after October is commercial suicide.

Edit : I though Wet was a 5/10 from the demo

For people moving slowly: If you sprint for 5 seconds it kicks into overdrive mode where you go into third person and run around crazy-fast.

"I enjoyed the Wet demo a lot more than this"

    Same here.

I played the PC open beta enough one evening to vaguely get the hang of how the game works, but TBH that left me with no desire to ever play it again. Graphically it's unimpressive, the weapons are boring and have a very disappointing feel to them and although it's very complicated, it's also repetitive.

Hard to imagine it being a success TBH - which is sort of a shame, because it seems to have some quite interesting ideas in theory.

Am I the only one who keeps confusing this with District 9?
  • SlipstreamDrifter #20 2 years ago

been playing the beta since it was released, i quite enjoy it. there are alot of new ideas that i haven't come across such as being able to drop in someone to kill them or going into overdrive (running really fast) and knocking in to someone to kill em, sort of like a car hitting a child.
there are some balance issues that need sorting and the lack of real solid objectives makes it difficult in terms of team play.
depending on price i might give it a go.
  • Whizzo #21 2 years ago

Zavvi were doing it for 15 quid PC/18 quid 360. Note I say were, unfortunately that pricing has now gone.

I rather wish I'd played the demo/beta before that time had passed... :-(

    Minor jetpack - win.
  • AphoticCosmos #23 2 years ago

I was quite interested until I found out that Battlefield 3 is in the works.

Awful demo, either walk around incredibly slowly or dash around in third person unable to shoot for a few seconds. Good luck selling this one !
