Syphon Filter* wasn't a stealth game. There were a few levels in which it pretended to be, but those levels were awful.

How weird. I thought this sounded like excellent fun! Who haven't always wanted to dance with an evil robot countess??

I see you point Arbiter, but sometimes these stealth elements just don't seem to fit. The dreadful one in Crisis Core comes to mind - so very badly implemented.

Better to get the prejudice out in the open up front. I hate stealth games too, so for me this is a pretty useful review. I was interested in this game despite the stealth, and now I know that it will annoy me as much as Splinter Cell did.

There are loads of reviews of every game on the web, I doubt it's hard to find one written by someone who likes stealth.

But surely it'd be better to just point out that the game has stealth elements - so that stealth-haters know and can then decide if they want the game - and then get someone who knows and generally enjoys what stealth gameplay is to give a proper assessment of the element.

If the stealth sections are deemed rubbish by someone who enjoys, say, Splinter Cell, then fair enough.

Tacked on and badly realised stealth elements are no fun. But the Stealth in the likes of the Thief series is a thing of beauty and highly entertaining.

Still, if stealth is not the whole point of the game, I guess Ellie's opinion might be representative of the non stealthers who will pick it up. If it's actually an intentional and major feature of the game, then her "stealth is no fun" stance might indeed hurt the validity of the review.

Terrible review. If Ellie doesn't like stealth in games that's fair enough, but why introduce that prejudice into the review? Sort it out EG; how are we supposed to make a judgement on this game based on such a biased article?

Disappointing.

I thought she was mostly commenting on how the developers had missed the point with the stealth mechanic - doesn't quite fit the character. And stealth is a tough thing to make fun - I liked it in BG&E and all the thief games, but hate it in MGS (too mechanical) and got bored in splinter cell (too slow).

I have to join the general chorus of why is someone reviewing a stealthy game who hates steathy games even if they're good. If you hate racing games, there's not much point reviewing Forza or GT. Reviews elsewhere seem much more positive.

"And again, since when was the Ratchet & Clank series famous for tip-top melee combat action?"

Umm... since like, forever, dude. R&C#1 and every one since. Walloping crowds of comedy midget aliens with a wrench, which was later joined by whips (oo-er missus) hammers and the like. And was great fun.
