SCEE working to get PSN titles ready

"It takes a while", Reeves points out.

SCEE boss David Reeves has said that all the PSN titles announced during Sony's American E3 press conference this week will come to PAL territories.

"We are making every effort to make these day and date with the US releases, but please appreciate that we have not one language, we have 13 languages and 27 stores - it takes a while to get these totally localised and uploaded," said Reeves.

Confirmed titles include Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty, which Reeves also revealed will be distributed on Blu-ray in Europe.

Others shown at the conference included Fat Princess, a new Rag Doll Kung Fu game (the first was for PC) and PixelJunk Eden.

Well, heres a bizarre notion; Let us buy from the bloody US store, then!

Seriously, the European store is just a bad joke...
  • rufus_the_stunt_bum #2 4 years ago

surely the uk store could be updated when the us store is... same fucking language.

  • MrGilder #3 4 years ago

I agree with Rufus.. release the content to all English language speaking countries in one go..
  • Scimarad #4 4 years ago

Exactly, Nintendo and MS don't seem to have the same problem.

    Try another excuse, Sony.
  • f01re #5 4 years ago

Where the fuck is Wipeout HD !!!?!!!!
  • Steroyd #6 4 years ago

Yes it must take all that time to translate the $ into £.

Some stores in European countries don't get the content despte these "translations" and it's digital distribution ffs, treat England like they speak English.
  • Darren #7 4 years ago

It annoys me that we speak the same language as the Americans but yet they get games months before us because English is the first language they're translated into. I'd rather have the US version at the same time as them and let the rest of Europe wait for the translated versions. After all it's their fault for speaking "funny" languages; why should we have to suffer because of them? ;)

Thankfully, you can import US PS3 games on disc but it's not so easy to purchase US PS Store stuff. I really wish Sony would let me use my credit card in the US PS Store and ensure that everything is region-free.
  • Darren #8 4 years ago

P.S. Also Microsoft don't seem to have any trouble releasing games, both disc and XBLA, across most major territories at the same time so I really don't see why both Sony and Nintendo seem to take such an early 90s attitude to the whole thing.
  • Steroyd #9 4 years ago

I think Microsoft isn't very Europe friendly, which might be why they're not doing as well over here.

Excuses, excuses as many have said MS don't seem to have the same problem. SCEE is a joke which is down to you Reeves.

Sony should sack him and get someone competent to clean house at SCEE.
  • RandomTerrain #13 4 years ago

I reckon he's the same Reeves out of Final Fantasy VII.
He's clearly in control of a robot cat riding an overweight marshmallow (or riding another talking cat if it's a movie sequel).
Hobbies like that will clearly distract you from doing your job properly.
  • Shrui #14 4 years ago

The languages excuse is utter shite. We've seen titles on the US store with full language support then take ages to come here.

Seriously, offer the version that appears on the US store and patch the other languages afterwards! A lot of non British euro customers have said in threads they are happy with the English version (even preferring it in some cases). Remember SCEE that some people can read and even speak more than one language!

Reeves should be fired. He is incompetent. SCEE should release English versions first with localised versions later. Face it, English is the defacto world language and many Europeans are bilingual. I'm sure given the option they would just pick up the English version rather than wait months and months until all the translations have been done. At least they should have that choice. Maybe Sony could, shock horror, ask them?
  • Ranger101 #17 4 years ago

Some countries don't allow software products to be sold/distributed unless they have the native tounge available.
  • Ornithophobe #18 4 years ago

UK Store, UK Credit Cards, English only*, done.

*could do the same thing with France and Spain in theory as they are in for U.S./Canadian releases

Due to the huge hispanic population in the US, why isn't the software being released simultaneously in English and Spanish?

  • Mr_Dodger #20 4 years ago

Totally agree with all of the abvove, The MS & Nintendo thing, the "EU countries speak English too" thing.

Localisation really is a weak excuse these days.

How much localisation does Locoroco, Everyday Shooter etc require? How about Super Stardust or Flow?

    "Select Mode"

    "press X to continue"

    etc.

    Not exactly War & Peace.
  • Moz #21 4 years ago

I'm going to ask again can they not put up the english language version at the same time as the US version is release on all stores and then the localised ones as they complete?? Most of Europe inderstands english well enough to be able to play the game and then for those who prefer to play in their native language just wait a couple of weeks as normal??
  • Moz #22 4 years ago

Due to the huge hispanic population in the US, why isn't the software being released simultaneously in English and Spanish?

And half the Canadians speak french, having bought from Canada in the past i know their packageing and games include French.

So that should be three languages sorted from the out set, not to mention that as they said SCEE has 27 different stores, so why not stagger the store and put up content for each country as it's ready.

  • Beano #23 4 years ago

"Well, heres a bizarre notion; Let us buy from the bloody US store, then! "

You can. I'm located in Europe and buying stuff from the US store all the time with my Visa.

But no excuse for late PSN games releases... get your act together, Sony... no more excuses... PLEASE!

  • Ryze #24 4 years ago

er... so why not release the English version on the smae day as the US, then follow up with the others afterwards?

Idiots. They really just don't want any money from us. Cool by me.
  • firefly #25 4 years ago

In fact why not just launch everywhere in English and add language updates as and when they're available. They could be optional too, so my HDD isn't taken up by a language I don't speak.
  • strelok #26 4 years ago

there is a much more annoying problem for non-UK users.
you can't buy from the UK store with a non-UK credit card.
apparently sony doesn't want half of europe's money.
  • beckyh #27 4 years ago

Well I am not sure I believe the localisation excuse. I know they do have to have different languages etc, but Microsoft manage to have worldwide releases on most XBL arcade titles. How can they manage it and not Sony?

Even if localisation is the real issue, I am more concerned with why we do not get trial versions of games when Americans do. Sony are losing money if they will not let us trial a game before buying.
  • Beano #28 4 years ago

"They could be optional too, so my HDD isn't taken up by a language I don't speak. "

Yes because different language texts and speek in PSN games REALLY take up a lot of HDD space :)

"Sony are losing money if they will not let us trial a game before buying. "

I agree completely. Sony's conservative approach towards PSN demoes is only causing games not to sell.

  • beckyh #29 4 years ago

Quelle surprise - 3 new demos on the US store this week and nothing for us. Still, at least I can still download them and play them, but that is not the point.
  • Ornithophobe #30 4 years ago

"you can't buy from the UK store with a non-UK credit card"

    What ?

I know this isn't much comfort to yourself, but if this is true that means they have ZERO excuse not to release everything simultaneously on the US and UK stores, if non UK Europeans can't buy from the UK store they lose the only excuse for us to have to wait for the localisation.

Speaking of the PSN, Elefunk is due to be released today according to the product page here [link url=http://uk.playstation.com/games-me dia/games/detail/item96857/Elefunk%E2%84%A2/
    ]http://uk .playstation.com/games-media/ga...[/link]

Are we likely to get a store update today? What time does the store usually update?

OOPS its there. Sony tried to confuse me by not putting it in the latest section but straight to family games section.

  • beckyh #32 4 years ago

Oh Elefunk is there! Its not on the latest section, but has gone straight to family games section.

Thats a novelty, UK getting a game before the Americans. :-)

Sony are just behind the times really. I mean the PS3 doesn't even support PAL60Hz for SD games, DVDs still play in green via RGB SCART and they're still take too bloody long releasing stuff in Europe after the US because of (cue violins) all those nasty languages we have over here. Those are all things Microsoft got right with the Xbox, nevermind the bloody 360! Seems to me that more than a few people at SCEE need a good kick up the rear.
  • Foxclose #34 4 years ago

    English dude.. we speak English!
  • BlackZam #35 4 years ago

    European PSN store sucks.
I'm from Sweden and I rather use the US store then the European...
The games cost more in the European store even if you add vat to the US prices plus all the games are getting delayed.

So just scrap the European store and let us use the US store instead.

Plus that the translations isn't that good. for example in Super Stardust HD you can't get the Scenic Route trophy if you do what it says in Swedish.
Because it tells you to complete a planet without shooting. Good luck with that ;)
When it should be without boosting.
And Super Stardust HD is from Finland, and they speak both Finnish and Swedish there.

So just scrap the European store now!
