Scarface heads to Wii

Wave a chainsaw this summer.

Scarface is coming to the Nintendo Wii this summer, Vivendi Games has announced today.

As expected, the biggest difference from last year's PS2 and Xbox versions will be the control system, with the motion-sensing abilities of the Wii remote promising to be put to use in various interesting ways.

"You walk, drive, navigate and pilot boats using the nunchuck, and then you shoot pointing at the screen with the Wiimote," a Vivendi spokesperson told Eurogamer this afternoon. "You can use a chainsaw with the Wiimote like hand-to-hand combat, so you can wave it around and wiggle it about."

"You can gesticulate as well. On the PS2 and Xbox versions you can swear and swear and swear to increase your kill factor. Well, on the Wii you'll do it through gestures, so the angrier you get at the screen, the higher you'll push Tony's kill factor."

Scarface: The World is Yours is based on the 1983 classic film by Brian De Palma, which saw Al Pacino stuff his nose in mountains of coke before going absolutely bananas, while also managing to build a pretty successful drug empire.

The game takes takes place after the final mansion shoot out, and (look away now if you've never seen the film) assumes Tony Montana survived the fight and lived to see another day, posing the question: what would happen next?

As you can tell from our review elsewhere on the site, we rather liked it, too.

It might not be the greatest game, but at least Wii is getting a few of the so-called "Adult" games. Shame I can't stand em, really!

This game just doesn't arouse me.
  • JayeM #6 5 years ago

The 2 best games based on either a TV show or a movie are Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Spider-Man 2.

    True or false?

i thought king kong was pretty boring, goldeneye was probably the best movie-game adaption there has been. i say was because obviously due to control it hasnt aged well but damn at the time it was nearly perfect as could be.
  • smelly #8 5 years ago

And here was me thinking that scarface got really good reviews when it came out on other platforms. The only negatvie press I saw for it was from reviewers upset that it changed the movies plot.

    Colour me interested.

Wii... the platform where bad games go to die.

@Beano : Before you start trolling like that, do some research. I've just skimmed through lots of reviews online an not one of them refer to this game as bad.
  • Kazzahdrane #12 5 years ago

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is one of the best movie/game tie-ins, even though it doesn't actually follow the events of a film (neither does Scarface, though).

    Good LORD, this looks awful.

    The grafix etc, are SHOCKING.
  • smelly #14 5 years ago

HAHAHA!! Classic fanboy post! Which graphics are you speaking of?

"@Beano : Before you start trolling like that, do some research."

Before you start labeling me as a Wii-hater... I own a Wii, but I'm pretty tired of sloppy convertions of mediocre ports and quick rehashes with Wiimote controls sticked on!

I want new and original games which the Wii simply does not have right now!

    GamesTM gave it 4/10.
  • Skeletor #17 5 years ago

Yes, I know...it's hard to believe and even a little bit shocking but this game is actually quite good. It does its job very well and should be even more fun with Nintendos murder-tool controls ;-) Tony's voice actor is just brilliant, he must have loved his job.

    >I own a Wii, but I'm pretty tired of sloppy convertions of mediocre ports

Where in this news article does it say any of those things? There's not even any screenshots.
  • Jambii #19 5 years ago

I'm slightly interested, Gotta have some good reviews first.

I've also got to see the film first.
  • Pac-man-ate-my-wife #20 5 years ago

In the past few weeks we've had Wario Ware, Korinpa, Excite Truck and Sonic - all great fun titles.
In the next couple we've got SSX Blur and Tiger Woods which are both shaping up nicely.

I lived through the DS drought so don't you go telling me there's a Wii drought! You've never had it so good!!

  • MadMirko #21 5 years ago

And also Dragon Ball and Metal Slug Anthology. And hopefully still in Q1: Trauma Centre.

    Wii drought, hehe.

@Pacman : Deffo mate. As i keep saying the 360 and ps3 both launched with equal or less decent games.. This happens at launch of any console.

As for this game being crap. The only place which apparently dissed it is GamesTM, and they're up their own arse - but i'll withhold judgement as i havent actually read the words of the review as to why it's bad.

Eurogamer likes it (and i trust them), and all the reviews i've read since hearing this news have also sung its praises. So i'm not personally going to take 1 magazines review as gospel when everyone else seems to disagree.

From the reviews i've read so far.. I cant wait to play it on my wii.

"Where in this news article does it say any of those things? There's not even any screenshots. "

Wow... you are quite a liltte fan-boy aren't you?

You must be pretty desperate to want to buy Scarface... common... it sucked and you really think the Wii version will be better??

Pretty obvious for everyone that the Wii currenly is the target for bad and/or rushed ports of old-gen games with tacked on wiimote controls. I'm only holding on to my Wii for the upcoming Nintendo titles... the 3rd party titles are mostly bad right now.

The best movie-based games are Chronicles Of Riddick and Lego Star Wars II.

been wanting to play this for ages, think I'll buy a Wii when it comes out
  • spongebob #26 5 years ago

I dunno, sounds like the targeting system probably works a charm, but gesticulating for swearing and waving the stick to manipulate the chainsaw sound silly. We'll see.

BTW. Xbox version of the game is really good. Highly recommended for GTA fans.

    @Vin : Nintendo appologist?

Oh ffs, get a fucking life!
  • smelly #29 5 years ago

"You must be pretty desperate to want to buy Scarface... "

I've read all the reviews I can find on the internet.. Sounds like a great gta style game.. So yes I am desperate to play it. Whats wrong with that?

"common... it sucked and you really think the Wii version will be better?? "

Well i havent played the other versions, but going from the reviews, it didnt suck. You've obviously played it.. So educate me, why does it suck exactly? I only have reviews to go on and they all say it's good. So if you think differently, let me know why!

I fail to see how wanting to play a game which has got good reviews on a system i own makes me a fanboy? I own a ps2 and 360, I doubt that this'll work BC with the 360 as it's a new game, and why play the ps2 version when the wii version is almost definately going to look better? So it makes sense if im going to play this game to get the wii version. So why does that make me a fanboy?

Is it a bad thing nowadays to want to play a game which got good reviews, just because it's on a certain system? I dont get it.

Obviously i'm waiting for you to clarify why it "sucks" because the only bad thing i can find against it is that some reviewers dont like the way it alters the movies storyline, and it's apparently TOO similar to gta. But that doesnt stop it being good as gta was a good game?

I've not read any other bad stuff about it? And being too like gta is (to me) a good thing!

"King Kong is the best movie tie-in."
"The best movie-based games are Chronicles Of Riddick and Lego Star Wars II."

GoldenEye was also *quite* good, IIRC.
  • jonsaan #31 5 years ago

Sounds like another souless port with Wii features nailed on for the sake of it.
  • smelly #32 5 years ago

Its funny that no-one said that when the 360 got loads of xbox ports at the start of its life.

And everyone moane BECAUSE the cube didnt get any 3rd party ports.

    Make up yer minds!

For me, i applaud this. If people want to convert games i dont own but which were high scoring, then great! More games for me to play!
