SC: Conviction has USB card drive News

Xbox 360 PC News by Robert Purchese

4 November, 2009

Ubisoft has whipped the wrappers off the Collector's Edition of Splinter Cell: Conviction, due February on PC and Xbox 360.

So far only the shops in America list the package, the best bit of which is a stylish credit card USB drive. Loaded on are a "Making Of" video, wallpaper, art, renders, screenshots, storyboards "and more...".

The Collector's Edition is packed in a classic steel case. Inside there's an art book, access to an exclusive in-game gun and costume, stickers, comic book and air breathed by real spies.

For all of this you pay 80 "bucks".

Splinter Cell: Conviction has had a rocky development history. Ubisoft once promised an autumn 2007 release, but soon threw the cover back over the title.

Two years later - at this summer's E3 - Sam Fisher reappeared, older and more brutal than ever before. Conviction now appears to have exactly that.

Our gamepage below has more.

If it's sized and shaped like a credit card, how would you plug it into your 360's USB port?

@cianchristopher Perhaps it's the return of the floppy drive.

Well, I just mean that with the recess in the 360 where tha USB ports are, the credit card USB drive would need to have some sort of dongle to plug in, wouldn't it?

Wouldn't look so "stylish" then!

Would you be able to view the video on the 360 anyway? I've never used an external drive on mine so I have no idea. It sounds like the kind of stuff you would watch on your computer anyway.

I've always wanted one of those as i'm either losing the lids of the usb sticks or the key fobs that hold them to my keys

Having one that slots in the wallet will be cool

Funky. I'll probably be swimming in games till the summer, so not sure if I'll pick this up at launch, but I am looking forward to it. I'd love that drive tho, being the gimmick-whore that I am.

Wow, a flash drive made for pennies in Indonesia, with the Splinter Cell logo on it. Where do I sign?

So that's what the US market is getting. What's the betting we get a roll of stickers and a half-eaten curly wurly?

Does mean that they're no doing an edition with a Sam Fisher figure/statue, in similar style to Assassins Creed as I'm sure I saw something on the ubi site a while back.

I've had a 1GB usb stick on my key ring for over a year. I think I got it on Ebay for £1.50.

.... doesn't have a posh logo on it though, so more fool me.

Why do 360 games keeps shipping with a USB card? (Forza 3 also does).

It seems stupid as the xbox 360 can't actually write any information onto them because MS want us to buy official memory cards.

I remember getting cool stuff free with games without them being special editions. I got a book with Frontier, and aviator shades with SimCopter. Now I'm lucky if the manual has more then half a dozen pages (Forza 3)

Err... what about key rings and action figures? As a matter of fact what kind of collectible items can one use with a console? I guess none, unless it's in-game material.

Hopefully it tops the amazing chaos theory and double agent limited edition packages. Those were beautiful cases.
